Default McLin Burnsed

Wonder if anyone who has used McLin Burnsed can offer some feedback as to whether they were satisfied with them or not. Thinking about using them for our wills, estate planning, etc. Thank you in advance!

Millhorn law firm has a very good array of all the estate/financil planning for the state of FL.

I do not use McLin Burnsed simply because they are tied too closely to the developer....just like I do not use their bank etc. Nothing personal or negative or what ever.....just my preference........and Millhorn are very good at what they do and they are reasonably priced.

Ten years ago or so, had our Trust drawn up by Milhorn Law. We were told, at the time, we would not be charged to make minor changes in our Trust. Our mistake---did not get that is writing. You can figure out the rest of the story.

Mclin Burnsed we used twice for closing. They did a professional job on both our closings.

We used Mclin Burnsed for two closings and will use them again when we redo our trust.

We use them because they are tied to the developer and we are very confident of his business dealings.

We used Mclin Burnsed to update all our estate documents now that we are living in Florida .

Fred Goler was the best I have ever seen on being up to date and knowing the law. He answered each and every question we had .

I was glad we came across him.

He has and accounting degree, law degree, and a Masters in Elder Law.

My bet is he will outlive my wife and me.

McLin Burnsed USED TO BE GOOD -- but now with all the growth of the villages, I find nothing but mistakes, disregarding phone calls, poor communication and worst of all they tell you that they are too busy to help you. Trying to close a house with them - but find that I AM MOST DISSATISFIED AND WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND THEM TO ANYONE

We used them last July for closing on our home, they were very good. It was a for sale by owner and they took care of everything and communicated very well with us in PA before closing.

McLin Burnsed is known as being attached at the umbilical cord to Morse.
They probably handle 99% of the closing in the Villages and can do it blindfolded.

I am sure they have others on their staff to handle other legal issues,
however, for something as sensitive as a will or trust (or both),
I would only go to an attorney who specializes in that
and that is all they do.

I equate your question to the question,
would you go to a podiatrist if you had a heart problem?
They are both doctors but . . .

I think you get what I mean.
McLin Burnsed gets a lot of business because they are well known
in the Villages because of real estate closings and title insurance.
Personally, I don't think I would use them for other things.

I am not comfortable with attorneys who "multi task"
with more than one legal speciality.
I don't think it's the intelligent thing to do.

Bonanza...sorry but I am not following your reasoning. I would agree that I would not go to a real estate lawyer to handle my will/trust documents. However, the law firm of McLin Burnsed is much larger than having lawyers who only do real estate closings. Its more than "just staff that handle other matters."

Jeff Skates is the partner who heads up the Estate Planning Group and he has been expanding the number of laywers who prepare estate planning documents. His sole practice focuses on Estate Planning and Corporate law....this is not a side business. He (or his practice) does not "multi-task" or deal with real estate closings. Their association with the Villages really has no bearing on their competence, independence or professionalism on preparing Estate planning documents that are personal to you.

Which firm you decide to use is a personal one but you should have all the facts before you pick or eliminate one.

I agree with you 100% on using specialists -- they are more in command of their field when it is their only field - additionally re the note from folkh -- you stated that they were good last July -- that was a time when the "boom" currently being experienced was not in effect -- now I feel that there are just too many closings ongoing to give any individual attention to any client...

I would not recommend McLin Burnsed; our closing was a nightmare. It took ~4 hours even though I had called a few days before to ask if there are any issues and anything else they need from me. Surprise, at the closing there was an issue that could have been resolved in advance with our bank.

I highly recommend Attorney Brett Swigert in Summerfield on 441; telephone 352-347-0033. He did our Trust, Wills, Durable POA's, and Living Wills.

I do agree with your reasoning and there is a lot of truth in what you've said.. I am not familiar with Jeff Skates so would not make any comment regarding him -- pro or con.

I think one of the things that bothers me about that entire group is the fact that the firm seems to have gotten on the band wagon of trying to accomodate every aspect of legal matters because of the ongoing souce of older people here, many of whom for the most part, take the path of least resistance or what I see as the easy way. It's the only law firm they know of so, "I'll go to them."

Through Morse, they sat back and have had business handed to them because of the connection. Years ago, obviously, they saw dollar signs in their future, and got on the band wagon of adding other attorneys to their group, who could handle things other than real estate closings.

I see so many signs of gimme, gimme, gimme and take, take, take in the overall community, that it has soured me on many fronts. It is hard for me to get the bad taste out of my mouth. I find it difficult accepting that just because they are big and do things for the developer, they are the best. In most cases, that kind of association is usually not true.

Personally, I much prefer to deal with a smaller firm or individual where I am not just a number who is filed away the moment I walk out the door.

So, to expand and be successful is bad?
You make a lot of assumptions in your conclusions.
