Angry Energy Home Shield

I had Home Energy Shield installed in our home. After 6 months I noticed no changes in our bills from the previous year.I repeatedly called the company and received no reply. I saw the owner at an energy show at Lake Miona Recreation Center and he told us that we should have saved money and the next week we would have a home energy audit. I called to find out when and received no return call. I then contacted Seco. They were great to deal with and they contacted the company. The end result was a refund of our cost. If you have a home that is fairly new in The Villages, with good insullation, it is enough. It did lower the temperature in our attic as advertised but it would not take 2-3 years to recoup our costs as told to us, but maybe 15-20 years per Seco.

What is a Home Energy Shield and who installs it? Was this sold when you bought a new home or as an after market product.

Default Energy shield

Goes in the attic between the trusses helps to block the heat from penetrating the roof. After market, Acts like a reflector. I was advised against it because it was a waste of money. ( cost recovery is way to long) in fact a roofer told me it could shorten the life span of my roofing material.

Thanks! Now that I know what it is I think I would look into a good attic fan instead!

Is SECO selling this concept....why else would they get involved?

Default Attic Fans

I did exactly that. Had 2 solar powered fans installed. They work great run from sun up to sun down and get 30% tax credit besides.

I am going through the same issue currently. Paid up front and do not see any significant difference in temperature in my newly constructed Villages home. Who specifically did you contact at SECO. Much appreciated.

There are a lot of energy related things that company's down here try to sell to villagers. Some things will not be worth the money. Before you buy any of these things , do some internet research on them.
