Default Garage door insulation info needed

New to the Village of St. James and our home faces the west. The garage door, like probably 99% of them in TV is not insulated, so our garage gets pretty warm during the afternoon. Has anyone had their door insulated, did it help the garage temps, who did it for you, costs? Researched this on Home Depot and Owens Corning offers a kit to do this.

Any info will be appreciated.

Ro Mac can install a insulatiion system on your door that will look like it came from the factory. If you door is a Colpay door you can call the company with the door serial number and size and you can buy the system and install it yourself. You must order it thru Home Depot. This insulation is a harder panel than the fiberglass system. You will stop some of the heat from the door but remember the garage ceiling is not insulated and it gets super hot in the attic . That heat will radiate down thru the ceiling.

Thx for the info; the pull down staircase will be the next project, then the garage ceiling insulation, then decking in the attic, etc., etc.,.......ah, new home ownership.

Tim miller can do those things. He is excellent . I don't think he does insulation. If your home is new , see who did the insulation install and get a quote from them.

Our house is also facing west. We are in the process of enclosing our Lanai and as part of the project are having the garage doors insulated and a radiant barrier installed through out the attic. T&D has project management and responsibility but I know they sub the insulation portion. I have been told by others that this should reduce heat in the garage significantly (whatever that means) but am expecting at least 25 degrees. We also had Solar Guys install a film inside the windows of the front bedroom and have noticed a difference in that room. Now if we can figure out how to cool the front door handle life should be good.

We added a radiant barrier to the garage door and noted a diffence but it became much more significant after we blew extra insulation into the attic over the garage. It turned a basically an oven into a usuable storage area.

I bought my kit at home depot. 16 ft. door took 2 kits and I installed myself, very easy to do. Kits were onsale online for half off, around 50 bucks total for both. Yes it helped a lot.
