Our AC unit is going to be 10 years old later this year and warrenty will be ending. My question to forum is are we better off running unit to failure and replace it on emergency basis understanding maximum life is being extended or can you get a much better replacement price replacing it on a pre-empted basis. Thank You

If it’s working OK why replace something that not broke? It will take along time to recover the expenses with propaganda of the energy savings they spew. 10 years not that old especially depending on usage if it was previously winter home.

When you do replace or need service use Chuck Farrell Heating & AC. Replaced mine after 14 years and of 4 quotes he saved me $1200. Just had a Freon line leak under the house so my line had to re-run through the attic. Three quotes $1800, $1200, and Farrell at $750.

while I agree to not replace it until you need to, after living in Florida for over 30 years, it does seem like they fail just after business hours on a holiday weekend--anecdotally speaking.
in my last Florida house I had an AC unit built by Chrysler! It was called a Chrysler Air Temp and had lasted about 30 years. I only replaced it when a fan belt or something broke and couldn't get the part needed. |
