Security system?
Anyone familiar with Village Alarms? I want a security system installed with motion detectors. Other recommended companies?

They seem to have good reviews. But, I would buy one of the DIY systems. Very easy to install, set up, and monitor yourself.

Given how little crime there is here, is an alarm really necessary?

Thoroughbred Alarms, Ocala, (352) 861-9999. Have had for 6 years no issues. Have motion detectors, glass break detectors, every window and door is alarmed. Their monitoring is done in GA and they have been prompt when we screw up and set it off. Not sure we need one but if it makes my wife feel safer I'm all in. I went with Thoroughbred through a recommendation from the security company we had in PA....it's a Honeywell System

Very satisfied with Andre and Village Alarms; he installed both our alarm and camera system.

Installed Simply Safe system myself. Very easy to do. Your choice of monitoring or not. I believe monitoring isn’t always necessary. Once the siren blares the invader will turn tail quickly because he will assume the police are on their way.

Village Alarms
Myself, my brother, and friend all have Village Alarms installed for two to three years now with no problems.

I would not get stuck with a monitoring contract. I would use simplisafe from an Amazon purchase. It has options for doing a monitor option monthly or not. You can also use blink cameras inside and outside that will automatically notify your cell phone if there’s movement. Most of these alarm systems are third-party contractors for ATT are similar. Which means that you will have a two-year plus monitoring contract.

Simplisafe
If you are willing to, and up to, installing the sensors yourself (it really is not hard) I really recommend Simplisafe. You’ll save yourself a fair amount of money over time. You can have them professionally monitor or just set it up with an alarm. They also have it so you can set up monitors beyond normal security, such as a fire alarm (which may save you $$ on your homeowners), water sensors, cameras, etc.

It's only a matter of time before antiquated security systems and companies associated with them become extinct. Wireless cameras are simple to install, effective, cheap and do not require a 3rd party service. They send alerts to your phone upon motion or sound. Motion can be filtered by person detection only. Its only missing a whailing alarm but with a little ingenuity that could be setup. It does require internet while away from home. Most internet services offer a reduced price while away (ie: snowbirds).

ADT. Have had for 12 years no issues. Have motion detectors, glass break detectors, every window and door is alarmed.

We had ADT in the past and it was expensive. Now have SimpleSafe and love it. Can do it yourself and spend very little on monthly charge. Check it out.

For a single woman, yes! Especially when there is a creepy neighbor. Doesn’t matter what the crime rate is, it can happen anywhere. Peace of mind is priceless.
