We’ve just closed on our beautiful home in the Villages. We want a natural gas line on our patio which is on the opposite side of the house from the incoming gas line. I’ve been told that a licensed plumber must run the line, which makes sense. Recommendations from others with positive experience is appreciated.

FYI, it's a licensed gas fitter, not a plumber.

One suggestion is to get a quote from whoever ran the lines during construction. Warranty can tell you who.

I used Torri Plumbing. Nothing as extensive as what you want, but they knew what they were doing. Mike Scott probably ran your initial line, but they were about 6 weeks just to get an estimate.

I hope this was with the new 'lightning resistant' gas line, and the appropriate electrical protection.

Is this for a summer kitchen? If so, just put a propane tank under the grill or put a propane tank in the ground and run a line to it. A natural gas line will be costly to run.

Couple thoughts, the line size is determined by the amount of gas needed plus length of the line add for fittings. The larger the line the more the expense. Running a gas line from the meter area to the opposite side of the house, for the right professional plumber/fitter is not as difficult as you might think but here are some points to consider. Adding to existing lines may be possible from attic or any appliance connection facing an exterior wall this would be cheapest route if lines can handle the additional capacity. If not possible upgrade through your gas company with an increased house line pressure and appropriate step down regulators installed by your contractor can reduce line sizing and cost. Ask your favorite plumber/fitter.

Have you considered contacting the gas company? They can probably recommend a reliable contractor. Be sure you contact the building department in your county AND the Architectural Review Committee.

Also consider an inground propane tank. This will probably beuch less expensive.
