Default Smoke Alarms

Yesterday I called Customers Choice Electrical Repairs to replace 1 smoke alarm. The repair man stated all of them should be replaced as they are older than 10 years. I had googled that response and found it to be true. The charge was $400. for 1/2 hour of work. I called 2 other electrical companies after the fact to see what they would have charged for the same service. One stated $185 and the other $155. I called the Customers Choice with my complaint and told them I had called the other companies and I felt ripped off. No response from the owner. I have lived in the Villages 16 years. This is the 1st time I have felt cheated..

I guess now you know what you should have done. It is unrealistic to think of getting back your money now.

The firemen will come and change out your smoke alarm batteries.

Rewired or plugged into the existing wiring? The fire department will install them for free if you buy the detectors, as long as there's not electrical issues. I recently replaced five, and it cost about $60 on Amazon.com.

Actually, I believe that you can buy the smoke detectors and the CO detector anywhere and the fire department install them if you make that request. I know that ACE Hardware sells them and I'm sure many other places as well. I ordered my replacements on-line and they were at my door in 2 days and I installed them myself in about 30 minutes.

People need to boycott Customers' Choice Electrical Repairs. What they have done is no different than stealing. Please take the time to report this to Seniors VS Crime. This link will give you the information you need.

How did you dispose of the old ones? Just curious as mine will hit the ten year mark next year.

Thank you for posting the this situation. I am sorry for the situation, but as I have learned from TOTV, there are many out there willing to rip us off. Outside of complaining, I do not have any other suggests for getting money back.

I haven't been here this long, but I remember reading about something called "Seniors vs. Crime"; would this be a case where they could be or should be called?
