Default Sunshine Air Conditioning - A+

Recently I had a couple of issues with our HVAC unit. Every month I would flush the water line with a gallon of hot water and collect what got flushed to make sure it was clean. That worked really well for almost two years. Two months ago, I only got about 1/2 gallon out, but the water was all clean. Last month, nothing came out, so I called Sunshine Air. My AC was still working ok, I thought, so I did not request emergency service (Labor Day weekend) on the voice mail.

They called back to schedule service and sent someone out a day or two later. By the day that the service arrived, I noticed that water was still dripping at the effluent vent line. I had also changed the filter since it was getting due for a change.

The previous filter was really wet. Installing the new filter was really a problem. We had added cabinets in the garage and one of them only allowed the access door to open to about 100-110 degrees instead of nearly 180. Because I could not fully open the door and I did not have easy help to remove the door from the hinges, I had to bend the paper filter quite a bit to install it.

The service tech arrived and quickly fixed the problem with the vent line which was blocked by a structure that zoogloea bacteria create building a colony - aka white snot, elephant snot, etc. He also had to shop-vac out several gallons of water that had collected. So he replaced a shutoff valve that should have stopped the AC unit when it started to accumulated water.

I described the filter installation problem and he gave me a level that I used as a straight edge to show that the support for the filter intercepted the not fully open door. It actually did not clear a small gasket on the door jamb, either, but I had not had an issue with that replacing the filter before the cabinet install.

He described the installation issue. The HVAC unit is installed after rough framing. The jambs are not even there yet. So the installation was straightforward. They also won't know which of the "double doors" in the garage will be the "locked" door and which will be the one that always opens.

I asked him to send someone out to see how the problem could be solved without needing to take the door off each time I needed to change a filter. Before the end of the business day, they scheduled an appointment for a supervisor to inspect the installation issue. After that service, they scheduled someone to come fix it.

The fix involved just pivoting the air handler a few degrees so that installation and removal of the filter was not obstructed. It took about an hour to rotate the unit slightly, shim it a bit and caulk it. The service tech was very concerned that I would approve the solution before even starting it. By the time he started, it was clear that if he could do it, the problem would be solved.

It took roughly an hour to do. All of this was almost a year after the "one year warranty" expiration.

When everything was done, the AC turned back on, I signed a couple of pages and got the invoice via e-mail.

The price was a bit of a shock $0.00.

Super professional service. Stood behind their installation, even though the blame could easily have been pointed at design/drafting or finish framing.
