Default House washing?

A friend of ours recently purchased a home. We assisted with his move and then returned home to NY. Since our return our friend has had many solicitations for services. He recently signed a contract for pest control services (which my husband and I thought was covered for first year) and now someone wants to sell him house washing once a month?

Can someone tell me if this is really necessary? We hate to see him taken!

I do NOT think anyone needs power washing once a month here.

We had our frame house in Hadley power washed about every six months. On the unsunny side there would be some green mold that would need to be removed by power washing and possible pre spraying with a detergent or bleachy product..... and the dust from construction hangs in the air almost everywhere.

By the way, just for your information and to keep you from being taken in, a decent price for power washing for a designer is about fifty bucks.

We have some little buggy issues with doorways and garage doors here that may require you sweeping them off with a broom to remove little buggy things that tend to collect above the covered doorways and on the garage doors. That can be done quickly and usually handles the situation.

Screens on lanais can be hosed off occasionally...easily.

Agree - twice a year should suffice.

I agree with you that monthly is too much. I would stay away from anyone that wanted to make a monthly contract for power washing our home. With once a month you might also be shortening the life of the paint job on stucco homes. Don't know though if that frequency would have an effect on vinyl.

I would also be leary about a fee of $50 now-a-days unless you know the washer and their work or have good references about them. The washer we use, "A Through Clean Home Washing Service" - David - 352-255-4395 athoroughclean@embarqmail.com cost $45 when we first used him, but his fee went up to $60 when we had the house done last month. We also had the driveway power brushed and washed for $45. That could be higher for larger than average driveways.

We went 2 years between cleaning and I have to say that before the cleaning last month, our home looked equal to or better than our neighbors. It wouldn't surprise me if most good cleaners have raised their prices above the $50 mark now-a-days!

BTW, Stellar Services also does home power washing and also power wash and brush driveway cleaning.

FYI -- He is not being taken on the pest control. The lawn needs to be sprayed monthly. The annual contract should cover both inside and outside. Normally, the exterior around the foundation is sprayed annually and then, if bugs are found inside, the pest control service will come and do the necessary in the interior.

The annual contract he got when purchasing the house should have been for termite protection, not pest control.

Stellar Residential provides home power wash service. They are a sponsor on TOTV.
