Default Handicap bathroom

Hi.

My sister is moving in with us and she has Ms and is handicapped. I need some recommendations to make the bathroom handicapped accessible. and also a recommendation for a plumber to do the work.

I also need help with the rest of the house too. I need some one to put little ramps at the front door and sliders.

Any other recommendations to make things easier for her would be great.

Thanks so much everybody.

You might have your sister get a vocational rehab eval to see exactly what she needs to be independant. Off the top of my caffeine free sleepy head--door knob recommendations: push down vs twist knobs, water faucet handles, width of doorways if she is now or will ever need a w/c: think ahead to the future while you're getting work done now. Think safety in the kitchen and bathroom especially, her being able to get out safely in the worst case scenario, other stuff you can mostly deal with later. Enjoy each other's company!

Closest Vocational Rehab office is in Tavares. The # is 352-742-6100.

Another idea is to contact your local MS society, or there might be an organization here in TV. Youmight get some suggestions from either of those places. Good luck!

At this site is a PDF file of a brochure published by the MS Society, that could be very helpful.

Yes -- thanks for the tip. There's an MS group that meets the third and fourth Tuesday of the month. I'll be there next week for sure to get some help.

Grab bars
Height of the toilet.
Might look for a phone with larger buttons.
