Default Seeking Attorney recommendations

As new residents of FL, we would like to have our old legal documents, such as; Wills, Power of Attorney, etc., reviewed by an attorney to make sure they are still valid, according to FL laws.

Selecting an attorney by going "eenie meenie miney moe" down the phone directory just isn't our style. Do any of you know of an attorney you would recommend for such a task?

As generic advice, I would recommend that you seek an attorney who is certified in "Elder Law". They would be uniquely qualified to address the needs of senior citizens.

That being said, I use Mary Trotter (she's in the phone book - office off of 441 across from Walmart). Have been very happy with her services. She also does some of the AARP estate planning seminars and, at one time, offered a discount to AARP members. She is also certified in Elder Law.

I have used Millhorn since 2001. He has always done a good job.

Used Millhorn for Trust Documents (5 yrs ago). They charged around $695-$700 while Mary Trotter wanted $1,200.

Used McLin & Burnsed in 2005. Very satisfied. They were then, as now, principal TV closing agents, so it seemed something of a "no-brainer" to use an acknowledged professional.

They quickly re-wrote existing revocable trusts and various associated items so that they complied with Florida law, without changing my original intent.

Something in the $800 range, as I recall.

Susan Sullivan is a great attorney for those things. Have used her for several things over the years along with other family members. Can't say enough about her. She is located off 466 in the same shopping center as Bargains and Treasures.

Moving to Fl .

See

"Finally, though a living trust you write while living in one state remains valid if you move to another, it's a good idea to check with a lawyer familiar with the statutes of your new state to see whether the trust should be revised to account for differences in the law, especially if you're moving from
a community property state to a common-law state or vice-versa."

I recommend Arlene Udick. She is part of the large Gainesville firm Bogin, Munns & Munns and is their Villages rep. Office is on 466 and she's at 391-6031.
Her specialties are real estate, wills & trusts, business law. The firm is also big in personal injury cases.

She was extremely helpful to me with a title insurance problem and did a great job on a home tenancy problem with an acquaintance.
