Unhappy Paver installation warning

Paver trouble, If you are thinking about having your driveway paved - beware of Old World Pavers. Our driveway was a problem form the beginning and we were promised over a year ago that we would have a new driveway. Well, that was now denied and we had to hire another company to redo our driveway. Please do not use Old World Pavers.

Hi Suzanne;

Welcome to TOTV. If you are having a problem with your driveway I'm sorry to hear so. However, be advised that many people look with skepticism on someone who makes their very first post a negative slam. This is especially true without any mention of the specifics involved.

Good luck and I hope the new company is to your complete satisfaction.

Default old world pavers

well I can understand Suzanne's frustration. We have had Old World out 3 times to take care of pavers cracking and still have the same problem over and over. They admit they had been using inferior pavers but do nothing about it. Really a dead end when it comes to Old World. Driveway pavers down for 4 yrs now and look like they have been down for 30. Buyer beware.

I've said it before, and I will say it again - it pays to check out these companies through the Better Business Bureau of Central Florida and both Seniors Vs Crime offices in TV (Marion and Sumter). FYI, the BBB rates this company as an "F" while Seniors Vs Crime reports past complaints with this company. I didn't use them!

As noted somewhere else in TOTV, any Villager can call The Village Warranty Department (352-753-6222) for a recommendation for a contractor.

Default Tamike

I guess now you can understand my frustration with Advanced Construction. The owner seemed like a nice guy seemed like a reputable company. But here it is Oct and my lanai was enclosed in June..It is still leaking, and he has actually said to me "anyone who lives in Florida will have water in their lanai"..Excuse me?? What is wrong with this picture? Why do you think I had it enclosed to begin with?
Now he tells me it is the window manufacturers faulty product and he is not sure if he will gaurantee it.
"BUYER BEWARE" ...You are soooo right.

And thank you Bryan for the info. I have reported this to seniors vs crime and they have contacted the owner and myself..We'll see now if this can be resolved..

Yes Laura, Rich really does seem like a great guy. I have looked at many of his jobs and talked to countless people that have had him do construction work and have yet to find one that can say anything bad about his company and him. We are considering hiring him and his company to do alot of work for us. Once in a while things can go bad with any project. Sorry it happend to you. Wish us luck!!!

Default Pavers

We had the driveway paved by Old World in 2006......beautiful job for six months then problems began showing up with their sealant, and bricks breaking. While they came out to replace the bricks their work was never up to par. They use a water based sealer which over time is NO GOOD! You should have a lacquer based sealer to help keep the pavers shiny and looking good. I would never use this company again. Their talk is cheap and their work is sloppy.

We bought a pre-owned with driveway paver and the bricks are breaking on the sides. The foundation did not extend as far out as the bricks.

I don't know what company did the work. But I agree with other posters: It pays to do some research and get recommendations as well as quotes when working with contractors.

PT...we had a similar issue with our pavers recently. They've been in for 3 years now, no prior problems.

I went out one morning and noticed some huge gaps in the sand between some bricks. Upon further investigation, the cemented down edge bricks had slid (slud?) over past the underlying concrete driveway by at least an inch. Called Old World...took a little coaxing to get them to come out quickly but they did reposition all the bricks and re-cemented the border bricks...and put in some extra width to the cementing. So far, so good. Only cost $40 to get this fixed. They claim someone must have driven on the border bricks....who knows?? Mr 07 doesn't think they applied enough of the cementing material when originally installed.

For those with pavers, do a visual inspection of the edges.... your bricks should line up perfectly with the underlying concrete driveway. If the bricks hang over the edge at all, they are susceptible to breaking. If you 'inherited' pavers, you may not have been properly warned..... do NOT drive on the border bricks.

Old World did ours around 2008. Looks like they were down 30 years and many cracked.-----Go to Paradise and talk to Neil instead.

Another vote for Neil at Paradise Pavers. They did our drive a year ago, and it still looks great.

Old World Pavers did my driveway 06/10. It still looks new and we have not had a broken paver yet. They did a great finishing job on it. They bevelled the edges at the end of the driveway which made it look truly finished. Just wanted another view to be heard.
