After first hearing about Ooma on this site, I researched it and finally got my Telo today. So far I'm not thrilled with the voice quality of the line but I will give it more time.
Right now I am unable to get the system to work through the phone jacks around the house. I'm pretty sure that I have it wired correctly. I did some research where others were advised to to be sure that the house wiring is disconnected from the telephone company at the NIB outside the house. I am wondering if that is the problem since I don't think this house (built in 2005 and sold to us in 2009) was ever connected to a regular phone company at all. I think the previous owners used Comcast which is VOIP, same as Ooma. I used Comcast for phone service last year, but this year I had Comcast just set up the internet and cable without the phone service. So would I have a NIB and if so, where would it be and what should I disconnect? Cindy |

Weather you had Comcast or Embarq, the line would be connected outside in a phone box someplace on the side of the home or in a box in the back corner of the lot. They must be disconnected for the OOMA to utilize the in home wiring phone system. I have OOMA at two homes and found the best option to be the wireless phone handsets. Panasonic, Uniden, and several others make these sets that have a base station and 3 or 4 additional handsets. Using these the in home wiring system is not used. Plug the base station into the OOMA and place the handsets with the charger base plugged into an outlet and your good to go. Works very well. My voice quality is very good at both homes. These are available at Sam's Club, Costco, Walmart, Best Buy for under $100. I got my last one at Costco with 5 handsets for $49 with a coupon.

THanks for the help. I do have a cordless phone and will have more here when we make our final move here in the spring (I hope). BUt I already have 3 regular phones here which I would like to use since I have them. I looked at the box outside and both lines are disconnected. At least the phone plugs are just hanging and not plugged in. Any other suggestions?

We had Comcast before we switched to FIOS. Our comcast modem had the telephone wiring connected to the back of the modem.
Check the Comcast modem for 2 twisted wires connecting to the back. |

THanks but the Comcast modem only has the ethernet cable for the internet and the coax for the tv.
I have even tested the phone line from the telo to the wall and it works fine. I'm stumped. |

The wording on installation instructions is strange. The OOMA outlet labeled WALL is not the one to use. The other one goes into your wall outlet.
If that does not solve the issue, you may want to open the wall outlet(s) and check to see if the wires are actually hooked up. |

I finally figured it out. I tried one more thing. I disconnected the wall cord from the Telo and put it in the phone outlet instead, and left the wall outlet on the Telo empty and now it works. THis is the opposite of their instruction booklet but who cares because now it works. Hooray. And the sound is fine today so it looks like I will keep it.

thanks rjrex. I had not refreshed my screen so I didn't see your email until after I posted my last message. THe instructions are not just strange they are wrong. Hope this helps the next person and saves them the time I have spent on this.
