I moved to TV in 2013. I believe I had the Nova system installed in 2014. The cost then was $500.

Since then I had the filters replaced several times at $135. The filters themselves cost $105 so I felt it's not worth changing the filters myself since Nova has the tool and know how. Besides, they are heavy because they are filled with water. A young persons type job.

I was informed that being a single person, I could wait a year and a half to change filters. The standard is 26,000 gallons.

Found the Nova filters to be an inexpensive way to keep quality water in my house. IMHO

I went with Pegasus as it has a self cleaning process that runs in the middle of the night, so I don't require the annual filter maintenance. They will also move the system once free of charge if I ever move.

Default Pelican

I owned a Pelican System, after a regular salt system. While the Pelican system is less to maintain, don't expected to get the soap suds that you get with a salt system.

I agree they are the best. No filters to replace. System back flushes and cleans itself. Perfect water.

GE is a large canister its mounted on the wall, CPM installed ours with a bypass valve--it filters taste & sediment--that is all any filter system should do--filters do not soften water--we installed an electronic descaler, stops scale on faucets--flushed our hot water heater for the first time in 91/2 years--no sediment

I agree the TV homes need some kind of water purification systems. Water smells badly from chlorine & taste bad. I know TV says they have good & safe drinking water but what do we expect them to say. I really loved living in TV, but moved because of all of family. Any kind of water filtering system would work, still would be better than what TV keeps telling everyone about the water. Don’t let the water run you out of TV!

we went with NOVA...I purchase the filters from them and change them out myself...not a big deal

My cousin who was retired IBM facilities maintenance did the initial research for all of us cousins in TV. We all put in NOVA units (and actually got a slight volume discount)

What sold us on NOVA was that the company originally serviced fish aquariums in NYC commercial buildings. Fish actually need better water than humans and this was the unit that they would install. When the owner retired and moved to TV he saw the need for water filters....so he started selling/installing...caught so well his son came down to help.

save your money go to Lowes or Home Depot. All the systems basically do the same thing. Its just water nothing special or magical about filtration.

How is that better than replacing the filters? How do you know the back flushing removes everything?

For instance... I have a self-cleaning oven. It does okay but doesn't get everything.

I like having totally new filters put in every 26000 gallons.

The ones I have seen back flush the water using a plastic pipe that is installed through the back wall of the garage, and dumps it into the side yard.

Fact no type of carbon can washed clean, contaminants are trapped in millions of microscopic pores. The networks of pores in activated carbons are channels created within a rigid skeleton of disordered layers of carbon atoms, stacked unevenly, creating a highly porous structure of nooks, crannies, cracks and crevices between the carbon layers.

The back washing only washes off surface sediment.

You may think of trying to clean a filthy sponge with water, not happening.

General rule is max of 18 months in a filter system, but actual number of gallons is a more accurate method.
