Default Wimax wifi service

Do you think our "the villages" would support a WiMAX wifi service if available.
Lets say for a monthly fee of $25 dollars. Or do you think everyone is to locked in to cable wifi and G3 smartphone service

Default Wimax...

From my perspective, which could be wrong, WIMAX is a bit slower than cable or DSL. Last time I checked, it was around $50./month for 1.5MB/s download speed.
Previously, I used Verizon's wireless network via usb modem, which was great from traveling, but since getting an iPhone with the 3G network, I never use the Verizon wireless...

The Villages desperately needs some competition for internet access over the cable and dsl services currently available.

We're going to try Sprint Hot Spot for $59/Mo. you can connect up to five computers/cameras/etc to the internet at a time and it is portable so you can use it anywhere there is Sprint service (Fla, up north, camping, etc). Speed is supposed to be 3 MB or 4 MB depending on location (they said TV was 4 MB). 2 year contract.

We move to The Villages on February 1. My only regret is that we will no longer have Verizon FIOS for internet, phone and TV. It is awesom service $139 nationwide phone including Canada and Mexico, DVR with lots of HD TV and 10MB downloads and 3MB uploads. Problem is they have to dig up the streets to install the FIOS cable and I don't see that happening.

I am very happy with my internet service from Comcast and would not consider service from anyone else.

My comcast is $25 a month as well and works very well. However it is all about market pricing for value. If you can offer a higher speed connection for a lower price that is reliable, then people will buy it. My download speeds are about 1 mb. Not great, but fast enough for most requirements. Today you can test your speed at several sites, so you know what you have and what you can buy. Price it for value and it will sell. If it it just as expensive and not a better quality, it will not. I would need a compelling reason to change.
