Default Yard Treatment

I'm looking for a new yard treatment service. Is it true that you have to pay a year in advance with most of the companies in The Villages? This is crazy. I heard only Leeco you pay per treatment. Does Massey and the rest require you to pay in advance?

Stellar does not require payment a year in advance.

I don't understand why residents have routine pest control applied to the lawns. We have lived here 7 years and only once did the lawn need pesticide in one area.

KittyKat -- Thank you for your comment.
I have said the same thing about the use of pesticides here in The Villages.
The local pest companies have put the fear of God in the residents,
particularly the newbies because they don't know any better.

At the rate we are going, The Villages will become one huge contaminated landfill in future years!

The use of indiscriminate pest control is out of control here.
I wish residents would use their head and only do a treatment
when and if they have a problem.

It's Florida, folks; we have bugs here!
But a few bugs does not warrant a monthly pest service.

Why do you have an ongoing pest control service?
If you don't have an obvious aggressive problem, let well enough alone.
You are killing the good bugs and worms that do good within your landscape and grass.

I'm not trying to kill the bugs, the grass looks like it might have a fungus or need fertilizer.

Bonanza, there are a lot of seasonal residents in The Villages
who aren't around to spot a problem with ants, roaches, or whatever.
We don't want to return to a colony of strangers living in our home.

Could be grubs or mole crickets. I think they kill grass in circles.

We just had landscaping installed and there were grubs and mole crickets being dug up everywhere.

I called my pest control guy.

I understand what you are saying, however,
from being in real estate for about 30 years, I have been in and
listed, shown and/or sold many vacant houses.

I have never seen a property overun with bugs and I am speaking about houses that did not have any pest control.
The bugs were usually dead except possibly, a few live ones here or there.
A quick vaccuuming and cleaning did the trick for the new owners.

Residents of TV are guilty of indiscriminate pest control.
They have been brainwashed into thinking it is necessary.
It is an unnecessary evil here and runs rampant.
People should call a pest control company if the have a REAL problem --
not an imaginary one or one the they they might have in the future.

Barefoot, we're talking about LAWN pest control being applied indiscriminately. Pest control being sprayed around the perimeter of the house is different. But I don't think even that needs to be done on a monthly basis. In the 7 years we have lived here I'm lucky if I remember to spray once or twice a year and we don't have a bug problem. We get those real tiny ants around the dry cat food dishes once in awhile so I'll put some traps out. The few bugs that have gotten in are soon discovered by the cats. And when we first moved in we had some red ants but I put Amdro on those and haven't had any more. Maybe there are more bug problems in the older areas that have more mature trees.

I hear you both loud and clear.
I doubt that any of us are fans of indiscriminate pollution of our environment.

Probably we have been brainwashed by Pest Control Companies.
If we were full-time residents, we could better monitor the situation.
When we are absent for extended periods, it makes us nervous
to think of bugs munching on our lawn, or ants playing volleyball in our kitchen.

OK people you all are getting way off what I'm looking for. I'm a full time Villager. I mow my own grass. I'm from Florida. I just want a better looking yard. The professionals do a better job than I can. I'm just looking for a company that I don't have to pay up front. And BONANZA please don't respond to this.

You've been a member since 2008, so you know that we posters love to get off track.

If you want a better looking yard, you could call Stellar or Massey or Bates. I've always found my neighbors to be the best source of information, and you can have a look at their lawns. I would think that any lawn company will come and have a look at your lawn, and suggest what corrective action is needed, without an upfront payment. Then it would be your choice if you employ them.

There is a genuine need for routine PEST CONTROL! If you wait till you have an obvious problem then you are the problem.
