    Your question re: applying film to prevent glass breakage. Lowes sells several films that you can put on glass. They are inexpensive but I doubt it would prevent breakage, I put it up in the arched windows in my office to block glare and it works for that. Due to the arch it was far more difficult to install then in the videos. Traditional is to tape your window with gaffers tape, duct tape. If, you purchase the good stuff, it not only holds better but it removes cleanly after the storm is over. You want to put it only on the glass or it might damage your paint.
