Thumbs up Loving Day Celebrates Interracial Marriages

It was ONLY 53 years ago, that the ban on interracial marriages by 16 states...was struck down by the SCOTUS.

Yes, Florida was one of them.

It's hard to even comprehend...it was so recent.

Overturned 12 June 1967 by Loving v. Virginia (16 states: AL AR DE FL GA KY LA MO MS NC OK SC TN TX VA WV)

Loving Day (pucker up here)

Quote:
June 12 is Loving Day, a celebration marking the day the Supreme Court struck down state bans against interracial marriage.

The day is named for the monumental case, Loving v. Virginia, and the interracial couple at its center, Richard and Mildred Loving. The 1967 Supreme Court decision struck down 16 state bans on interracial marriage as unconstitutional.

"Over the long haul, it changes America," said Peter Wallenstein, author of "Race, Sex, and the Freedom to Marry: Loving v. Virginia. "It’s just a stunning case."

Richard and Mildred Loving were married in 1958. They lived in Virginia — where they wanted to make their home and start a family. The state jailed and then banished them.

The movie “Loving” tells their story. A trailer for the movie, which came out in 2016, can be found with a Google. From what I just read, it looks like it will be on HBO next week. I don’t know if it is streaming other places, too.

That is a good thing. A very good thing.
I would imagine all wise people would agree. Most caring people will agree. I believe that in my lifetime, I have seen so many good things happen to further the cause of equality in law. Now if only, somehow, we could make people stop LOOKING for differences that divide us.
