Default Florida officials announce crackdown on truck drivers

Florida officials have announced a crackdown on undocumented truck drivers. They will now have to be able to read and understand English in order to drive on our roads. It will make us all much safer! Hopefully these big rigs won’t be crushing as many people through errors.

All weigh stations will be utilized by ICE to help make our state safer.

Question: Aren't undocumented or illegal aliens prohibited from working at any job? I thought you had to have a green card, which means that you are documented. What am I missing?

You don't have to understand English to know that you shouldn't try to make a u-turn with a semi in the middle of a highway!

In the recent incident in Florida, the driver was licensed and was working for agencies in other states? I’m certain the licenses were issues in California and Washington. A lot of road traffic here in Florida comes from companies that are out of state.

You have to have Federal authorization such as a work visa or work permit. The driver of the truck involved in the recent accident did have authorization.

(but facts aren't going to matter in this thread, it ought to be shut down now)

And being able to read English would change that how?
It's likely there was not a "No U-Turn" sign at that break in the median.
There might even have been an "Official Use Only" sign there
There is no amount of legislation that will keep people from making dumb decisions
Those making dumb decisions on the roads are much more likely to be US-born

Why, because our state is moving to make the roads safer for us. We pay for the turnpike through our Surpass so it needs to be taken care of by all of us both locally and at the state level. Preventable tragedies need to be reduced. The state doing their part at rest areas and weigh stations is a great help.

You don't need to know any English at all, to recognize a stop sign and its meaning. Or a yield sign, flashing blinker signs, or even street signs.

If someone tells you in Spanish, "Gire a la izquierda en la calle William" you just have to look for the sign that says "William (street)" and take a left there. In the case of street signs, the words are English, and the shapes and colors are Universal. It might be confusing if there's a William Street, a William Avenue, and a William Lane all in the same neighborhood. But if not, the word "William" is recognizable in any Latin language and people will know to take a left there. The No U-Turn sign is also universal because in that case, the "U" is presented as a symbol depicting a 180° turn, not a letter of the alphabet.

Doesn’t the International trade agreement allow drivers to cross southern and northern borders with their country drivers licenses? Besides, most semi-trucks on Florida roads are from out of state. Sure may help Florida bases drivers but it may do nothing for out state drivers legal or illegal? it only violation when get caught anyway. IMO blame companies for NOT doing background checks and putting their companies at risk for law suits? IMO also family of people that got killed needs to go after company, state of original, and lawmakers that allowed unsafe drivers.

Most over road truck driver only have to deal with numbers like I70, I10, I40, I80, plus the have GPS that tells them exactly where to. They don’t even have speak just pass who ever test.
