That's the headline the Orlando Sentinel went with today, and they opened the story with this.

Florida reported 120 new COVID-19 fatalities on Thursday — the single biggest daily increase — pushing the death toll past 4,000 and coming after weeks of exploding coronavirus cases across the state.

Florida reports 120 COVID-19 fatalities, its deadliest day of pandemic - Orlando Sentinel

Here is the graph they presented charting Florida deaths.

Attachment 85176

Wow...very scary, deaths are rising must be that surge of new cases.

The problem with the Sentinel's headline and chart is there were only 9 deaths from covid 19 on Thursday. The rest of the 120 deaths were from previous dates and to make a correct chart you have to backfill reported deaths to the date they actually happened. I am pretty sure they know this but 120 deaths in a single day just makes for great panic porn headlines.

Here is a correct chart with deaths listed on the actual day they happened.

Attachment 85177

So far total of 135 deaths in July for Florida. This number will rise as deaths by actual date are backfilled. It takes time for deaths to be coded at hospitals, sent to the county, then the State and CDC.

It's unfortunate that we can't trust media reports on just about anything.
It is horrible that they re not held accountable. The only way is to not buy their paper or go online to read their news.

Hope so but , in Russia, the expression is "don't bother believing anything that our Government says". And if we ignore science for a few more years, then in 20 years CV will be coastal property.

Look at their chart, they put all 120 deaths on 7/9/2020. Looks like a big spike.

It's BS
No, what's BS is the continual carping and presenting of wrong information by ....

The chart which you are claiming shows 120 deaths as occurring on 7/9 does not show that. It shows 120 deaths reported on 7/9. If you don't understand the difference I can write a long post trying to educate you.

The chart you present labeled daily new deaths shows exactly the same information for every single day... The number of deaths reported on each day. And that day with 120 was the highest ever. Apples to apples. Deaths from COVID are higher now than they were in April or May per the day the death was registered by the state. It is not fake, it is not a hoax. Sheesh. It was the deadliest day for new reported deaths. Is that clear enough?

LOL seriously?

The Sentinel chart is labeled Daily New Deaths, not daily reported deaths. It's very misleading in that it makes one think deaths are now higher than ever, and they are not.

It shows 120 for July 9, and on 4/16 52 deaths

sentinel-chart-jpg

The Actual deaths per day chart is labeled correctly.

It shows that the peak actual death day was 4/16 at 78 deaths, and deaths on July 9 at 9. The deaths that actually happened July 9 will go up in a week or two, but it isn't going to be 120.

The Sentinel could post a correct death per day chart if they wanted to, but it wouldn't fit their panic porn headline.

If one chooses to think both charts look the same, I know of a good eye Doctor.

It upsets me greatly that I see people in TV not wearing masks while they are shopping, going to the library, walking (in herds) , going to church, etc. I aksed one lady why she was not and was told she was not getting Covid because she takes good care of herself. AU Contraire my dear, if you were taking good care of yourself you would be wearing a mask. Many supposedly healthy people have gotten the disease. Tom Hanks and his wife had it way back. Now he is not releasing his new movie to theatres but will put it out streaming. He always looked in good shape to me.
If you hear that a Villager went after someone for not wearing a mask, it may well be me. I have surgery scheduled on 6/28 and do not want to be getting sick before that.

Look again at the headline. The first half is true...."Florida Reports 120 Deaths Today"....The second part may or may not be true. Because of the delay in reporting, we don't know yet what the real number that died "today" is. It may be 9 (not likely), or it may be 109 or more. But, the increase in total number of deaths reported is real. Gentlemen (and ladies), we have a problem!

There are very few if any ICU beds available in nearby hospitals and the death rate is increasing. Hopefully, it won't get to the point where refrigerated trailers are needed for the bodies. But make no mistake, this is a virus you don't want to catch. It can have deadly results and life-changing effects on human organs.
Hospital bed/ICU availability in Sumter County AND having all necessary medical staff/supplies/techniques/treatments, equipment available right here is on my mind.

I wonder if/how the hospitals in the area have prepared for the Pandemic; since we bought time during those months we spent in lock-down so they could stock up and get ready for this?? I wonder how local hospitals spent that time? How many Ventilators around here? Just how ready are Hospitals for this in a community, specially built for Seniors, which this virus targets? I hope forward-thinking is being applied. This might need to be another thread?

I do not want to get who-knows-how sick even if it doesn’t kill me.

I wear a mask inside public places. However, if what other people do bother someone, they should not be around those people. You CANNOT mandate that others conform to YOUR standards, period. It's kind of like charity. If you confiscate someone's property to give to other "deserving" individuals, then it is NOT charity. You cannot force someone to wear a mask if they do not wish to. Better to just stay home if it bothers you.

Hmm, I wonder what happened to the mobile hospital units that were installed when this started? I think that since there was no use for them, they were taken down but I am not sure. They didn't even use them in NYC. We had some in FL also but I have not heard that they were utilized. I guess it is nice to be over prepared and not need it, rather than under prepared and need it.

I hope we don’t need mobile units. I’d much rather be overprepared.

The key is exactly what you stated: FLORIDA REPORTED !!! Meaning the State Government. Problem is, they are NOT reporting accurately and have to be threatened with law suits before they release the information. So, which one is spewing "fake news"? The Orlando Sentinal or the State Government with a majority of "you know what's"!
