I’m the OP. Very disappointed that so many of the posts are Political. Where are the Mods???? I recall making a very minor mention of politics months ago and got an infraction. I guess it comes down to the Mod on duty and their leaning.

No “standards” re political mentioning on TOTV. Simply go back and check off the posts that ARE political-mentioning. Still there. And really they all seem to reflect “one side”. Enough said.

You may have seen these nuts on your news sources. Throwing paint and stuff on museum paintings. Barricading roads. Protests. AND… gluing hands and feet etc to roads or floors.

Current example at the US Open tennis tournament in NY last night. A 40 minute delay due to protesters in the stands screaming etc. 4 idiots. One actually glued their feet to the floor. So play disrupted due to these out of control crazies.

What do they accomplish? And who funds these nut jobs. OK protest to your hearts content but do NOT impact others.

If I was in charge last night, kick the 3 out of the stadium as they did. And leave the glued-feet nut job right there all night. Sweep the floor around them. Bye bye. Idiots.
And, I guess climate change deniers are not nuts when 99% of the scientist that have publish papers say that burning fossil fuel is causing the planet heating up. We are very close to the tipping point. You are causing your grand and great-grandchildren to inherit a plant that is uninhabitable. I do not think you are nuts. Instead, I think you and those like you are stupid.

The next to last paragraph says "Protest to your heart's content, but do NOT impact others" - is basically an impossibility to achieve. The point and purpose of ANY protest is to influence others and bring them around to your way of thinking. The WHOLE idea for doing a protest REQUIRES that it "impacts others".It is a little bit like the MOST annoying advertisements on television.....people don't like them, but they tend to REMEMBER them.

I disagree - there is just as much accountability today for people committing crimes as there was in the past. In fact, with all the video cameras recording everything in public places - this probably gives MORE accountability today. In some high-profile cases, someone gets away with something. But, as Abe Lincoln once said, "You can't fool ALL of the people ALL of the time.

There are GOOD protests and BAD protests depending on which side a person is on. Take the famous Boston Tea Party. People in the Colonies liked it. People in England in that era saw that action as an illegal protest. The recent incident at the US Open Tennis Championship was about some aspect of protesting climate change.
.........Which personally, I see as the #1 problem in the world right now. Personally, I would NOT have done what they did. But, I also can relate to the idea that the problem of Global Warming is being grossly ignored by the average citizen. While scientists are screaming it to the rooftops and few are listening.

Sure. Protest. But don't trample on the rights or the well-being of others in the process.
The irony is that the environmental protesters that block highways cause hundreds of cars to just sit and idle, causing more pollution than if there would have been otherwise. D'oh!

Wow, good thing you were there. It was obviously so important to protest that you forgot what it was about. Oops.

Ya, cuz when I'm horribly inconvenienced and irritated, I immediately change my view to whatever the idiots irritating me think. Everyone does! Immediately!

Actually this was it. I was probably trying to impress some fellow U of Denver female student or maybe my old neighbor from the Milwaukee area who had moved to Denver whom I caught up with while there.

Rocky Mountain Arsenal - Wikipedia
I remember in 1965 when several young guys I knew went to protest SOMETHING (?) in D.C. I said to one, "That is a very aware thing that you have done". He said, " I just went there to meet chicks"!
......I wonder if that is the motivation for most social change?

That is patently false. It doesn't matter if no one gets arrested and no one is prosecuted. You clearly have no idea what is going on in NYC, Chicago, LA, SF, Philly, etc.

Florida has hate crime laws and statutes. From the state's PDF on the topic:
Quote:
A hate crime is an act committed or attempted by one person or group against
another - or that person's property - that in any way constitutes an expression of
hatred toward the victim based on his or her personal characteristics. It is a crime in
which the perpetrator intentionally selects the victim based on one of the following
characteristics: race, color, religion, ethnicity, ancestry, national origin, sexual
orientation, homeless status, advanced age or mental/physical disability.
Wearing Nazi insignia (including some who proudly sported SS pins) while lined up on public walkways while shouting "Jews will not replace us" to passersby is considered intimidation and, by definition, a hate crime. Here's the pdf link:

Wouldn't that be cute when he asked to be loosened so he could go to the rest room or to get something to eat or drink. No one there to help.

I agree with the concept of the middle being the desired area. I DO HOWEVER find it amusing that so many differences of opinions can be BOILED down to just 2 people. It's like we are still in the 2nd century BC where the LEADERS are considered GODS. How can ONE PERSON be so important? If I ran the world, we would have as our President a 3 or 5 member COMMITTEE, never ONE PERSON. To me it is UNCIVILIZED.
........ONE person can become a Dictator - 3 or 5 people CANNOT!
........Personally, I vote for the party (not the person) that BEST represents my philosophies. Neither is perfect, but one comes closest to my thinking.

Interesting punishment - ignoring the fact that fire ants are rarely NORTH of Tn.
