All 27 were vaccinated, had mild or no symptoms, and were in isolation, according to the statement. The tourism board said 99.98% of the ship’s crew was vaccinated, as well as 96.5% of its passengers.
The positive cases were among 26 crew members and one passenger on the Carnival Vista, which is carrying over 1,400 crew and nearly 3,000 passengers, the board said in a statement. The ship arrived Wednesday in Belize City. 27 people aboard Carnival cruise test positive for COVID-19 Wow, 99.98% of the crew were vaccinated, and 26 of them got covid. It's a pandemic of the unvaccinated I tell you! (sarcasm) How could this happen? Obviously, someone boarded the ship and already had covid, most likely a crew member. Maybe all the crew got Pfizer shots? Maybe some of them forged a vaccine card to keep their job? Last edited by SkBlogW; 08-13-2021 at 08:27 AM. |

26/1400 and 1/3000
Those two ratios alone tell a story. |

Pretty obvious that a member of the crew brought it onboard, and it spread in the tight quarters the crew have on ships.

We enjoy cruises. However, until “herd immunity” becomes a reality we will pass on taking a cruise. To each his own…

We are so ready to book a new cruise but not with the variant running amuck.

Maybe forged vaccination cards/QR codes or they received a less effective vaccine like some of the Chinese vaccines. Still, it will be a long time before we think about a cruise.

Absolutely!!!!
26/1400= 1.8% of crew in very tight quarters 1/3000 = 0.03% of passengers doing whatever All among people vaccinated against the original strain Pretty darn good, IMHO Just think what EVERYONE'S odds are just living their life day to day without confined spaces, unless there are still some hiding under their beds and wearing a mask while driving alone (and unfortunately, there are) |

Cruises got a bad rap when they were treated like an alien invasion by those who could not find their backside with a map...to which the media immediately focused on the plague ridden ships.
Then and even more so with today's cruise guide lines there are more controllable knowns than going out your front door to the grocery store(s) and back. |

After the results of the Olympics, PGA golf, NCAA football, cruises, and anything else that requires 100% testing I have become convinced that ANY large group tested will reveal COVID positive results.
The vast majority of them would never know they were COVID positive if they were not informed of such. No, I have no data to support this. Yes, I realize there are a (very) few with serious illness . This is my opinion based on my own observations.

And my other observation cannot be tested either----Let's say we give our children the Varicella (chicken pox) vaccine. We just give it and that is that. What we DO NOT do is test them every other day for Varicella antigen, like we are doing with athletes for COVID. And what would we find if we did? Same with flu shots, which are far, far less effective than either Varicella or COVID vaccines? Do we test those vaccinated every day for the flu??? It would make a lot more sense to just vaccinate, then ONLY test those who develop symptoms later. |

I think the most important take-away on this "article" is the "mild or no symptoms" part. Moral of the story: vaccines are good. 90+% of people vaccinated in a contained environment is especially good.
