Many of the posts on TOTV seems to come from very disgruntled folks. Therefore, we need to get rid of that "Friendliest Town" moniker. Maybe change it to "Crankiest Town".

Who are the Woke complainers?

They undoubtedly have a lot of baggage in their own personal & family history too. Being hypocritical has been a very consistent theme in the recent troubles.

the BLM protesters should be very angry at the leftist anarchist rioters who have hidden inside & usurped their protests. There’s some overlap but there seems to be two very different groups operating at the same events. The anarchists are using the BLM protesters as cover to hide behind so the police cannot address them without potentially harming BLM. It’s a shame BLM doesn’t act against this to protect their protesters. The police have shown great restraint but that could all change at any time.

Agreed. I love her sticky sweetness. It reminds me of home & my Grandma. Genuine comfort food. As a young girl, I imagined that she developed a really tasty recipe so it was named in honor of her. She even got a bottle in her likeness!

These folks want to exercise mind control as if it’s possible to stop racist thoughts if no imagery is available to trigger the thought but they are ignoring reality and personal responsibility.

Some folks may have been triggered to learn more about the history of the brand which might even have ‘spread’ (Pun intended) to learning more about American history in general.

Have you ever heard of Madame C. J. Walker? If not, there’s a lot to know about her. She was one of America’s first black female millionaire entrepreneurs. Successful black female entrepreneurs actually existed but these woke PC enforcers seem to believe they were all only folklore. Isn’t that hypocritically racist?

Bothers me that nobody talks about the progress we have made over the years. Not perfect but we are much better society than say 100 years ago.

They should have updated Aunt Jemima into a woman taking care of her family and than off to work at a high paying job.

Unfortunately the wrong people have become the leaders of the Blacks in our country. So many have become successful those are the ones who should inspire everyone, not the Sharptons of the world who are only out for themselves.

Their stated goal is to dismantle American government and its corporations. They say they want to change America into a socialist country. Believe them.

What is so hard to believe? As children these characters never meant anything to many of us, and the older versions of these products are nothing more than reminiscent of the comforts of (my) childhood.

These companies that have used charicatures of minorities and stereotyping to sell their products or name roads or facilities after, have continued to profit from the racism that we still see after all these years. Kudos to the ones who are finally realizing and making changes!

It’s about time that people stop being shed in a negative light because of their differences. Change is difficult for many of us, Many people, young and old, have been raised to see no difference in race, color, or nationality—have been against it or more sensitive to The fact that minorities have been the impetus of ridicule, racism, and stereotyping through all generations to right where we are now.

As much as people resist these changes, you are amongst the many who just can’t believe it. There lies the problem...
We laugh along with everyone else when we hear stereotypical Jewish, Polish, Asian, Irish, Indian, and Italian jokes, no matter who tells them, but they ARE offensive to many who won’t even admit it because they don’t want to be perceived as different from what has become the norm... because they already are!

Many more people use their intelligence and insight to recognize that positive changes can create an environment that can someday do away with referring to and dislike of people’s differences, and instead see them as nothing more than fellow human beings. They’ve finally jumped on the bandwagon to DO SOMETHING to promote change. Why such resistance? Because you don’t believe that this has been going on, and you’ve turned a blind eye to it.

In response to someone who brought up the fact that young people aren’t even going to church anymore...
With no disrespect to church-goers and older people that are set in their ways and perceive the Bible as a manual for being good Christians, but the manual has some flaws or typos.

Young people today reject some of the teachings and are more spiritual. Their lives changed from when they were children learning how to become good Christians, to now being capable of making a difference in the world because of their own choices, especially regarding organized religion of any kind. You don’t have to go to a house of worship if God is everywhere, providing that you believe in him. Obvious in these forums, and right here in the Villages, church-going DOES NOT always promote good Christians (or any religion). In fact, the Bible is the exact reference that clearly are the roots of Antisemitism that still exists— it started as a result of the those teachings in the Bible where Jewish people were portrayed as “cheap,” amongst other things. (they’re not not as cheap or cheaper than many Villagers). This stereotype originated thousands of years ago, is recorded as a biblical event that has perpetuated this anti-semitism amongst some of the church-going, God-loving, good Christians. There are two versions of “the truth”: the Old Testament and the New Testament.

The negative portrayal of minorities through religion and history, along with the media that continued it for many years, perpetuated what we‘re still seeing now in 2020.

Let statues rest in historical museums, not destroy them OR allow them to remain in full view as reminders of their ancestors who suffered at the hands of others for so long. Today’s and future generations shouldn’t have to still fight for the equality that they deserve. Everyone doesn’t have the ability, opportunity, or a break that comes along to pull themselves out of poverty due to circumstances beyond their control.

Rallies and protests, although there are bad apples in every bunch, are trying to change people’s views.. Being intimidated by police in full riot gear, and the senseless deaths have just magnified the racism in this country.

Hubby just heard the female singing group, The Dixie Chicks, are dropping the "Dixie" in their group name. What is going to happen to the type of music called Dixie Land? This is truly getting out of hand.

I abhor these people that are protesting and causing this Cancel Culture movement. Do away with every last one of them. Cancel those b@$%^&^s.

Just an educated guess
...public school teacher?

Your broad generalizations (stereotyping) of Christianity are very biased, bigoted and incorrect. Churches are places of worship where people feel the support, fellowship & love of others. The belief that God is everywhere doesn’t replace the benefits of a church. They complement each other. Being part of a Christian group does not mean we should be demeaned by those who uphold all protesters as though they are above reproach. Politics and protesting are being held up as if they are a valid replacement for religion.

Rallies & protests are an attempt to show solidarity with larger group of others who share one’s own views in order to force the system to change.

Those who attend BLM protests are having their influence usurped by the thugs who riot, loot & destroy. If BLM has any decency they would work to stop the bad actors who are using their protests as cover from the police. BLM is allowing the protesters to be put at risk so apparently their protesters lives don’t matter very much at all.
