Default Washington's Birthday

Today is a Federal holiday called Washington's Birthday (not Presidents Day). Also, it is not a Florida state holiday. A lot of national news people seem to think that Presidents Day is a national holiday.

Correct! I remember the incredible sales in the F Street stores in D.C. on Wahington's Birthday.

We used to celebrate Lincoln's Birthday as well in the good old days...

I'm pretending I'm having a good day since the Futures are not on a holiday.

Here's what to know about Presidents Day and how it came to be:
Bearing the likenesses of four United States chief executives, Mount Rushmore is pictured in 2019 in Keystone, South Dakota. Presidents Day, which is Monday, serves as a day off for federal workers and typically signals the start of many retails sales and deals.
When is Presidents Day 2024?

This year, Presidents Day is on Monday, Feb. 19.

The holiday is celebrated on the third Monday of every February because of a bill signed into law in 1968 by President Lyndon B. Johnson. Taking effect three years later, the Uniform Holiday Bill mandated that three holidays – Memorial Day, Presidents Day and Veterans Day – occur on Mondays to prevent midweek shutdowns and add long weekends to the federal calendar, according to Britannica...

How is the holiday celebrated?

Because Presidents Day is a federal holiday, most federal workers will have the day off.

NOTE THE FOLLOWING PER THE GOVERNMENT OPM WEBSITE: This holiday is designated as "Washington’s Birthday" in section 6103(a) of title 5 of the United States Code, which is the law that specifies holidays for Federal employees.

So...it's both. Or neither. Or...whatever.

Bottom line: no mail delivery today.

As I am retired, it's just another Monday. But a Monday with no bills is a good Monday.

Not true. Presidents Day is not a Federal holiday. The bill signed by President Johnson in 1968 was HR 15951. I read the bill. The law changes the date for the Federal holiday, Washington's Birthday, to the third Monday in February. But, it does not change the name of the holiday, which remains today as "Washington's Birthday". The law makes no reference to a "Presidents Day". I don't know of any Federal recognition of a holiday called Presidents Day.

George Washington and Abraham Lincoln were the two greatest presidents we have ever had and both should be remembered as such with each having their own National Holiday

There has never been a Federal holiday for Abraham Lincoln.

Presidents' Day 2024

Another link.

I recall seeing President Ronald Reagan speak at the University of Nevada, Reno in 1982. He was a great communicator.

How many ways can a hair be split?

The third Monday in February is a Federal holiday, whether that "holiday" is labeled (as is commonly done) President's Day or Washington's Birthday.

End of story.

You proved the whole point of my original post. Congress can change a Federal holiday, but USA Today cannot.

He is more deserving of one than the newer ones.
