Hadn't thought about that. They need to change "The Masters" golf tournament. After all it IS held in Georgia, a former Confederate State right?

Dear Guest,
First, I do understand your sarcasm.
Second, I do understand that some individuals could find "Dixie" offensive.
Third, taking both first and second responses into consideration, I do still believe that, in some cases, the removal of certain words because someone finds them offensive could eventually, if taken to excess, limit discourse that is necessary.
I have known girls/women who were named "Dixie". Think of how greatly demanding they change their names, names given by loving parents, might offend them, their family's and friends. How does this add positively to the much needed conversation. And, this is only one of the many examples that could be shown.
As for the "250 years of oppression", there is no denying that injustice is a sad stain on the fabric of our nation's history. It has left a scar on us all. But it is time to look up from that scar and focus on the future and acknowledge the positive advancements since those times and look forward to a better and brighter future.
Living with hate, dwelling on the past and continually picking at the scar of past injustices will only reopen old wounds and aggravate all sides.
Are things not better today than in those old days? Have things not changed? I think so, but I also believe there is much left to do.
So, do you want to work together to improve things for all? Or do you want to continue living with anger because you can't let go othe ugly past and squabble over details like the name "Dixie"?
I choose a peaceful future together.

Please explain “there is much left to do” Such as what exactly?

Should we ask Japan and Germany to change their names. They might be offensive to some people.

Racist word

What are we going to call white bread???

davem4616 06-27-2020 06:58 AM

This name changing is madness...and the brakes need to be put on this

if not our world will become pure vanilla (oops...that may have to change too)

I wonder how much it will cost to change all the street signs when "Dixie Hwy" gets renamed to something else... not to mention the cost of reprinting the stationary for all those businesses on that road

how many school districts will decide to change the names of schools

how many more communities will be asked to vote on changing the names of their city/town

how many people with the last names, Lee, Jefferson, Davis, Grant, Lincoln will change their names....we're going to have a lot more "Smiths" and "Jones" in the phone book (if we even continue to have phone books)

will the US paper and coin currency be recalled and reissued with different faces on them

will certain books be banned from the traditional summer reading list

Really? When will this stuff end? What would this solve? Who would pay for re-branding etc? Are you as tired of this as I am???

WINN-DIXIE SUPERMARKETS
CONSIDER CHANGING 95-YEAR-OLD NAME ...
After George Floyd's Death

One of the largest supermarket chains based in the Southeast is considering dropping its name after nearly 100 years ... a move triggered by the death of George Floyd and the Black Lives Matter movement.

Sources at Winn-Dixie tell TMZ ... the supermarket chain -- billed as a southern heritage brand serving Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana and Mississippi -- is considering changing its name because, just like The Chicks, it deems the term "Dixie" as problematic due to ties to the old south and its way of thinking.

The Dixie Chicks Changed Their Name Because The Word 'Dixie' Is Problematic
They're now simply "The Chicks."

The “cancel culture” is targeting the South, it’s history and people. Folks of the South are some of the most patriotic and God loving people in the Country. The cancel culture is set on division of Americans and wiping out our History. Enough is enough. God Bless America and her citizens!

noslices1 06-27-2020 07:10 AM

Maybe they should change it to “Winn-Dicks”

If you research BLM the organization does little for the black community. Too much fake news spreading hate and racial tension. There are issues with many forms of racism and prejudice in our nation. Slavery was world wide not just here in the United States. No one today had anything to do with slavery or the indentured servants from Europe. Time to move forward and stop race baiting and fake news to upset the masses! A name is just that a name, history is history, & we are whom we chose to be. I was raised as an army brat & served in the Navy, I have learned much about different cultures. Cultural diversity is a wonderful thing, to learn about others beliefs, customs, & heritage! Wake up folks this isn’t about racism it is about divide and conquer!

Another Woke Corporate ! Dixie Chicks haven’t had a song worth listing to in 10 years. Just shut up and sing.

Realtors in some states can’t refer to ‘master’ bedrooms.

DecaturFargo 06-27-2020 07:45 AM

And the problem is?

Your right and our media is leading the charge to destroying America as we know it.

Here is just a little food for thought. No where in Germany are there statues to Hitler, schools named after him, stores with Nazi themes, theme parks called the Nazi experience. The confederacy was made up of traitors to the American government who wanted to keep people enslaved. I cannot imagine why any human being thinks that is a great thing to memorialize. The insensitivity to our brothers and sisters whose skin color is darker than ours is disgusting. Read history and be ashamed of what the south did.

Villages Kahuna 06-27-2020 08:07 AM

One thing is for sure...if the management of Winn-Dixie didn’t think their continued use of the name wouldn’t have negative effects on their business, they wouldn’t be considering the change.

YOU may not like it, but business is business.

I’ll be interested whether my beloved Chicago Blackhawks bend to the pressure of some native Americans and a lot more liberals to change their classic logo. So far, the owner won’t even consider it. I think he could lose lots of fan support from longtime fans like me, and even hockey fans across Canada as well. Like I said, business is business.
