In some previous posts I provided info on potential charging problems with some Yamaha golf carts. There were some questions about the overcharging condition, so here are some answers:

Overcharging a lead acid battery can cause the following issues
• Excessive current will flow into the battery, causing decomposition of water in the electrolyte and premature aging.
• At high rates of overcharge, a battery will progressively heat up.
• Shortened lifespan, decreased capacity, and decreased efficiency.
• Corrosion of the positive battery plates.
• Increased water consumption.

From personal experience, my 3 year warranty battery lasted 2 years and 1 month,. Tests I did at home seemed to indicate the battery was OK, but when I took it back to Advanced Auto, their tests showed the cranking amps had gone from 750 to 150 which is why we were having problems.
