Default Irrigation rain sensor replacement

My rain sensor finally deteriorated and fell apart due to 20 years in sun after wind storm other day.

Before I replaced it I confirmed the old wiring was good from outside to controller.

I replaced sensor with same type. Was nearly impossible from me to run new wiring up under eve down attic inside electric panel out through inside of wall out to irrigation controller so I just spliced it with these butt connectors for 22 plus AWG a wiring. Very easy to work with and use.

After I was done I tested it by pushing down on sensor top pin while irrigation zone was running and it shut if off , after I released it zone kicked back on again.. done.

I've never found those type of sensors to work very well. Happy with my wifi weather forecasting my Rachio uses. I disconnected the rain sensor.

They work for few years till weather caused the expansion material not to expand, you can get cheap kit for that. But, nothing you can do when click switch won’t work anymore. I have rocks so not that important for me. Don’t really use it anyway but still needs to work if I desire to move, something they can nickel dime me out of 500 dollars if I go down that road? sometimes I just fix stuff for no reason other than it should fixed?
