Not talking about a relative but those pesky insects. I found that vinegar works really well on stopping them in their tracks and erasing their scent trail for others to follow them.

I generally use Windex. Stops them dead in their tracks, safe to use in the kitchen, and if you wait overnight, the other ants come and pick up their dead. That is also the signal the area is dangerous and the ants tend to be reluctant to return.

These sugar ants are persistent little buggers. And then can have more than one queen. Think I got one of the queens. I destroyed one of the nests anyway.

Terro is the best thing to get rid of ants. It really works.

Terro (borax) works when the ants gather it then take it back to feed the colonies. Since it is poisonous to ants, this kills the entire colony without the entire colony coming to you. When it works it almost seems like magic - the baits turn black with ants on day one and by day two there are no ants to be seen. But there is more than one variety of ants and they are not all created equal. I put Terro out to solve a problem just like I had done many times before. However, by day three there seemed to be more ants than before and by day five I knew something wasn't working right. Apparently, this particular type of ant (white-footed ant, not that I could see a difference) does not take the bait back to feed the colony. It makes the colony aware of the food source and it likely dies after eating the bait but it only kills itself and not its buddies. My Terro was essentially a buffet for these ants and the line was never ending. Massey came out and sprayed for theses. The first application eliminated all but a few stragglers. The second application about a month later finished off the stragglers. Massey has been very responsive for us. Normally, I would try the Terro first since it usually works but it's easier now just to give Massey a call.

But there are still ants here and there. I did buy some Hot Shot Ant Bait but these ants do not seem to be too interested in it. There is another colony somewhere outside near a bush. They look and act like sugar ants. Last edited by Taltarzac725; 08-04-2024 at 10:58 AM. |
