Default Turtle Mound Golf Course

I played Turtle Mound golf course yesterday after being closed for months I was excited to see the improved conditions. Turning my cart into the parking lot I noticed they didn’t fix the big pot hole in the middle of the driveway I guest that’s a different maintenance company. When I got on the first tee I was glad to see the vast improvement made which continue for the four hole I played before being Rained out. After reaching the first green I couldn’t believe it they were as bad as they were when they closed. I don’t understand the maintenance company did they think the weeds and bare spots would heal themselves. I continue to experience the same conditions on the four holes I finished. My search continues to find a executive course that’s worth playing.

Those like before photos! When did it reopen??

I found this online. It reopened two weeks ago!!!!

Golf Course Re-Opening - Turtle Mound Executive Golf Course:
After a much-needed rest & restoration, where the course was aerified and new sod
was laid in certain areas, pine straw and tree trimming were the main focus; Turtle
Mound Executive Golf Course will be open for play Friday, August 15.

I just reviewed the Golf Course Maintenance website.
Turtle Mound is rated as Fair Condition. This is after being closed for maintenance.

Golf Course Maintenance - The Villages Community Development Districts

As I am reading this, I am writing my monthly amenity fee check. This is a continuing problem on many of the courses! I don't understand why management can't get this fixed.

I just got done playing Turtle Mound about an hour ago. After being closed so long, I was surprised the greens weren't in better shape, although the tee boxes were all very nice. Seems like the maintenance crew doesn't know what they're doing with the greens.

Same here this past week. Disappointing to see right after a course has been closed down for so long,

There is a PWAC meeting scheduled for this coming Tuesday, Sept. 2. That would be great place to bring your concerns. The SLCDD meeting would be another.

I would think that the person that is in charge of maintaining Turtle Mound should know about the condition of the greens - we should not have to go to meetings and bring it up.

I would like to know who authorized it to reopen.

If your assumption is that the person in charge of the maintenance is not doing his job properly then bringing it to the attention of his boss(es) might be a good approach. The PWAC meeting is one of the two places to do that.

If you would like to know who authorized it to reopen then you could either call the District office or you could ask those who have some say over the amenities at the PWAC meeting.

On the other hand, if your interest only rises to the level of sitting on this board and complaining.....

Last time I called to complain about the condition of the executive courses they told me that the problem is that the executive courses get a lot of play. They are doing the best that they can under the circumstances.

So the courses down south get lots of play and they are in great shape.

I believe part of an ongoing problem with the executive courses having so many problems is the golfers that neglect to repair ball marks, fill divots, drive carts in wet areas, and fail to rake bunkers reflect they feel the villages golf maintenance doesn't care about course conditions and they also don't have as many ambassadors as they once did and the ones they have can only say so much. Am I wrong?

Just for laughs, I looked at <their> rating for Pelican which was also recently “renovated “

They reared it as EXCELLENT.

Yep ! I got a really good laugh at that rating ….. it is on POOR condition….🙄

Wow ! That is horrific !!

Want a course worth playing ?

Churchill, Pimlico and Belmont for starters .

Amberwood , Walnut Grove and Briarwood.

Any of the courses south of 44 are in great shape and don’t believe the BS that the courses are in bad shape because of the amount of play they get .

Lowlands, one of our favorites, is in pristine condition and guess what ? It is the MOST PLAYED executive course out of ALL executives in The Villages ! (No lie !)

So, in order to find THE MANY executives that are in good shape , you need to be willing to travel a little ….

There is a gulf of knowledge between grass cutters, and greens keepers.
