Default Is this true or a rumor?

I spent a few weeks looking for a hair salon for a good cut. It seems that one salon close to me has a system where one pays according to the talent or skill level of the hairdresser. Later I learned the person who owns that also owns several of the other salons around the Villages and the Beauty School.

I believe in capitalism so that's not the problem, hey, we wouldn't have cars without it, but, I finally was able to find a salon where the prices were not according to skill level and for some reason I can't explain, I had alot more confidence in my first Village hair cut. I am curious if people from other parts of the Country have salons that charge that way? This was a first for me.

Yes, "Visible Changes" in Texas. It originated in Houston in the late 70's. As I recall, they have several levels of stylists, depending on how many thousands of haircuts they've done and how often they are requested by a client. It seems to work for them, since they've expanded greatly to other major cities in Texas.

Yes, we're from Houston. My husband is a native Houstonian, and I spent most of my life there. It'd be great to meet you too. We can pm.

Many of he salons in my area charge according to skill and talent! In fact I go to one. I thought I was saving money to go to a salon that doesn't. I think it was my most expensive haircut EVER!!! She cut it... then re cut it and then I went back to Mario Tricoci and got it cut right. Lesson learned.

I think this practice of charging by skill level/experience is fairly common in the Chicago area. I have to go every 7 weeks just to keep up with gray hairs that I'm seeing more of now -- thanks Dad (he was totally grey by his late 40's).

A lot of the true "salons" in my area charge like this. If you want a place where all pay the same price you have to go to somewhere like Hair Cuttery. Which by the way is where I have finally found someone who give me a fabulous haircut which stays nice for about 6-8 weeks when I get it cut again. I dread having to find a new place when I get to FL. Took me 35 years to find this stylist! And she only costs me $25 with tip!

Yes, we have salons that charge by skill level in ATL. Usually you can read their resumes and book the one you want online.

went to salon in northern VA. They also had different level stylist/prices. This was a very nice salon and I used different stylist depending on who was available...one was higher level than the other and I gotta say they were both just as good. Maybe it's a way for the salon to give the stylist a pay raise and pass the cost on to the client.

Default Me Either TedNRobin

I found a wonderful place in LSL after a long search. I knew I was on the right track when I telephoned and asked the price of a cut and blow dry and they asked about how long my hair...so, I think I'll stick to that one, which was kinda fun anyhow with adorable gifts and other beauty options. I need all the beauty options I can get. Plus, if I ended up where the charged by skill level and I took the lowest, I would be sobbing for the hairdresser's sense of self worth and then my hair would be really hard to cut while my shoulders were heaving up and downk

LoL. Please PM the name of the shop. I will need a place to go this winter. I hate going to a strange place to get my hair done.

I've been using stylists at Fantastic Sam's on 27 across from Sam's Club with varying success. Most are pretty good. My friend decided to try it and she had the best cut she had in a very long while. Ask for Claudine and if she is there and you are a walk in, you just wait. Otherwise you may phone for appt with her, I think before 10 am on the day you wish to go in and there could be a small extra charge. Watch for coupons and Tuesday is senior day.

So where did you finally end up to get the good haircut? I am unhappy with Cal's Barbershop and need a change, but one I feel comfortable with as well.

Thanks!
