I was hoping that retiring to TV would help my "chunkiness" - staying so active and all. On our recent visit there we were VERY active all day long, but now that I think about it a lot of the activity was walking from restaurant to restaurant with stop at ice cream place at end of the day. LOL :o  |

What was it they used to say about this stuff? "It sure doesn't taste like tomato juice"?????? (I think that was their ad.) And then somebody else would say, "Of course not, it tastes like V8." Welllllll, that just makes me want to say, "Yeah. So? Is that supposed to be a good thing?" And now, that :cus::cus: jingle or ad or whatever is stuck in my head. (And I hope that you can all hear me saying that ad in my snippiest, most mocking tone. I am also making faces. I am grouchy. Grouchy. Grouchy.) Boomer |
I kinda like V8 Boom. I think because it is so SALTY. I drink a lot of it when I am trying to take off weight. I also have eaten lots of those baby oranges called Clementines, so many I got an acid sore in my mouth.
I am grouchy too. I need a donut fix. |

Speaking of weight issues ... Have you seen Keedy's latest comment about Hilary Clinton putting on weight? Grrrrr. |
hmmmmmm! I was totally glued to that infommercial last night on TV about that body shaper thing that takes 2 sizes off of you??? For 39.99 you can be two sizes smaller. I cant remember the name of it but it started with a "K"
I absolutely hated girdles in our girdle days and couldnt stand the confinement. It has been wonderful letting everything hang out all these years. Ahhh! total bodily freedom except for bras which I would love to burn! Well, so Im wondering has any body tried a body shaper and are they and are they tight and uncomfortable? Im such a sucker for anything that they say will make you look sliimmer instantly. Right now Im taking a colon cleanse and Acai Berry supplement like Rachel Ray did ,and I havant noticed one bit of difference., except Im running to the ladies room constantly! |

I do not generally read the political forum and have even used the TOTV "ignore" feature to filter out posts from one particular member who often writes in there. Sadly, it seems that almost half of the posts on TOTV these days relate to Politics and tend towards partisan bickering rather than solutions. I enjoy reading the stories on TOTV of people selling houses, finding TV, human interest, fun jokes, good/bad contractors and restaurants, mulling the future of TV, etc. There's enough hard news and analysis on television, newspapers, and the internet. |

political. I too enjoyed totv when it was about life in TV, for villagers, by villagers, and wannabees. Where is the ignore button? Can I ignore a whole forum? |
I agree with the politcal posts. Some of them are so combative-not what I need.
I enjoy totv when it is about villagers not politics. Is there a way to filter out that forum? |
thanks to V'07 and also of V8
'07!
I did not know about such a filter. I should have known that you would know what to do. I look sometimes. And then sometimes I get caught up in my whole moderate thing, and next thing I know I am writing :cus: And what is the point? And '07, about that other stuff you said about what you like here on TOTV, well I would be holding up a bunch of those little "I agree" signs, but I can't find any. They must be using all of them over in the political forum. So there is a filter that will keep me from looking. I did not know that............................. And Barefoot, do not give up quite yet on the V8. I have not given up. And GG, you're right. It does not taste really so bad. I was just grouchy. But I got through it and it was boring chicken and colorful salad for supper. I know what you mean about salt. It can be one of my favorite food groups. Next to fat and sugar. The V8 I use is the low-sodium version. It has 140 mg per serving while the regular has 480 mg. Both are 50 calories. Sodium at less than 2400 mg a day is the standard. I need to stay less than that. I can really tell when I have been overdoing the sodium. A little fluid retention kicks in and really can hold the pounds on me. The Baylor study where I got this V8 thing was done I think for people with blood pressure issues and so that was why the low-sodium V8 and the DASH diet. Geez. Please forgive me. Here I am sounding like I am turning into to one of those people who goes around giving unsolicited and righteous advice about what people should eat and must pontificate about all the food stuff we already know. The only thing is -- those people are usually as skinny as rails and can make me feel like, not only am I so obviously a bit zaftig, but also dense. ....know the type? --those people who approach it differently than just sharing ideas about a common problem. It is fun and encouraging to share ideas about things that might work to take off weight. But those people are different about it. And they always think they are being so subtle. Recently I finally said to somebody who was going on and on about calories and exercise and yadda, yadda, like I am an idiot, "Yeah. I know. I have been turning into quite the little butterball since you saw me last.".............. (Like I don't know ten pounds is a size. Geez. Here I am, grouchy anyway in these first few days of trying this new thing, and then I get a not-so-subtle unsolicited sermon from a stick! And I hated when I said that because I am usually nice and one of my friends even calls me party-insurance. I hate it when I act :cus:, er grouchy.) Thanks for listening. Seeya later. Maybe I will tell you about how I exercised today. But it will not be a sermon. Those are only available from stick-people. Boomer |
Yes, the Political forum is dominated by a relatively small number of like-minded individuals. As my wife (Kat) says, eagerly looking for the outrage of the day to start a thread and then go on and on about it, until the next outrage of the day. Sure wish there was a filter or blocker of some sort.
I keep getting suckered into looking at it! |
how to ignore...
Since several of you asked (but, I'm sure admins wouldn't want this to get too widespread)....
You can choose to ignore the posts of individual members but I don't see anyway to automatically ignore a whole sub-forum. Towards the upper left of your screen, click on the "User CP" menu link From your user profile, look down the left hand column and click on "Edit Ignore List" link There is a box that says "Add a member to your list" .... start typing the member's screen name in this box...after a few characters, the system will show you all member names that start with those letters. Select the one you wish to ignore and hit the "Okay" button to save it. -------------------------------- You can de-ignore (resuscitate) these members at any time. When they do post, you will see a placeholder where they posted but not the actual content of the post. Hey, it's better than nuthin' Like you, BobKat, I sometimes click on 'new posts' based on the thread title before I realize it's in political. Then, I beat a hasty retreat. |
Thanks 07 and all.
Boomer - like you I am a moderate. And I am happy to discuss issues. With emphasis being on discuss. I don't want to hear how Obama was born in Kenya, or how he is planning to socialize medicine or why women only dislike Sarah Palin because she is attractive. Many of the fans of the political forum are also Glenn beck fans - a washed up disc jockey in New Haven before he learned that taking extreme positions gets you a national audience. Whalen - I so agree with you that I am actually thinking of just having my PMs fed to my yahoo account and only visiting TOTV to read them. But I would really miss THIS thread. I actually posted something RUDE today - and got a thumbs up from Tony. Actually, I posted something rude once before and he liked that too - seems he gets tired of all the negativity too. Kate (tired of work and in Atlanta) |

As a moderate I have been hoping against the, more obvious every day, odds that political would moderate instead of dominate. (Of course, I mean just calm down. I know they won't turn into moderates like us.) The lineup is full of thread start after thread start after thread start. And if I were looking in here and watching now, like I did for a while before I joined so long ago, I cannot imagine that I would join. I would think that I had stumbled upon just another political venting spot. Like you, I would miss this thread if I gave up. I was just getting started on getting a little help from the girls while I try to get through more than just a week on this V8 thing. But this thread has slowed down quite a bit I know. And I understand. And I also know that it is possible that TOTV has changed forever and is on to becoming something else. There is still good info and even a little fun under the political pile up, but it requires more and more wading to get to it. So maybe it has just quite simply changed forever and there are those who like it that way and so that is how it is. And so, if so, I would then need to just be a little sad about it and then forget about it. Although Boomer would miss the fun. (But she's nuts.) I will never venture into Political again. I would think that I saw a little hope. A little light. A little humor even. But then......you know. For now, I guess I will just wait and see how it goes as I hope for moderation. It has been way cranked up in there this summer. An offshoot of the media onslaught. Everywhere. Boomer |
Boomer, Kate,
It's getting harder & harder to avoid, it's becoming all political all the time. Last time I looked politics was about 40% of all posts, and sometimes general and medical posts are political in disguise. So much about political BS, tomorrow I need to know about the new gold label tuna fish. Good Night |
Girls, Girls, Girls!!!!
You have fallen into their trap. You have just transformed our WONDERFUL Girl Talk Thread (thank you Bare for starting this thread) and turned into into a Political Bit*h session. What am I missing? I find it very easy to ignore what I don't want to read. Its also easy to change the % of threads all about political by posting your own thread about something nice, Like Happy Birthday, or Who likes Spanx??? What happened to our fun thread, is the negativity catching? I hope not, It will never catch me.... Speaking of dieting,,,, why is it no matter how much I dance at night and sweat my arse off, I still don't lose weight?? :cus: Girls, what can be done? What am I doing wrong????? Help please...... Your loving sista,,,, Kath |
Hi Kathie. This is Boomer speaking.
Hey, about that dancing. Yesterday I got on my elliptical and sweated my behind off. Or pretended that I was I guess. I listened to Jimmy Buiffet the whole time so maybe the pace was a little more mellow than when I punch up the hard rock stuff on the old iPod. But did I weigh in less this morning???? Helllllllll NO! Kathie, maybe we are just turning it all to muscle and we know that weighs more. Well, that's my story and I'm sticking to it. Boomer |
Happy IVGLDSW Day!
First of all, I haven't posted in awhile (I was never an uber poster anyway), so HELLO to all the ladies in and out of The Villages.
I firmly believe that all women in and out of TV are VGLDSW!!! I'm not sure if this link has been posted before, but it really cheered me up. Perhaps it will put a smile on many of your faces too: http://rogstad.vox.com/library/post/...gldsw-day.html Hope this leaves all of us having bright optimistic days ahead.:) -Julie |

And by the way, (I think this is definitely girl talk) , Noone ever mentioned if they have ever worn a shaper that instantly took 2 sizes off of them? I really, really would like to know! |
Hahahaha!
:a20: Julie! I love this post! Happy IVGLDSW Day ladies! I think we all fit into this category!
Hey, Nonie Macaroni!!! If I buy 4 of those body thingies will I go down 8 sizes! Wooooo hoooo! Get outta my way.... placin' my order now! (Of course, I might never breath again, but as my daughter would say "Suck up up sistah!") :crap2: |
hahahahahahahaha!:a20:
I am visualizing you trying to squeeze into 4 shaper thingies, one on top of the other!!! OMG! Is it even worth it????? I would be too exhausted to go anywhere after that workout!!! LOL |
Hey seriously, I gotta admit something... shhhhh, don't tell the boys. But the spanx (lower 1/2) really works, helps me dance without jiggling.......LOL All the girls laugh cause my pants start to fall off as the night goes on... I'm pretty sure it does off 1/2 a size at least -- that's okay, I'll take whatever it gives me.
|
How about the spanx upper? Or do we want those to jiggle? LOL LOL
OMG, we are so bad! |
Julie, I love you, where you been??????
I loved this part of IVGLDSW ---- Inside me lives a skinny woman crying to get out. But I can usually shut her up with cookies. (Author, KathieI :pepper2:) |

Cookies are one of my true weaknesses, well along with Cake,Ice Cream, Garlic Bread,Fettucie Alfredo,Potato Chips,Nachos,Eggplant Parmesean,Bagels,Cinnamon Rolls,Cheese,Olives,Sangria,Cheesecake,Fudge,Empan adas,Cannoli, and on and on and on. :o Geez no wonder I can't lose weight. :cus: :icon_hungry: |

Yes, I live many of those quotes :eclipsee_gold_cup: Kathie, tell me the truth; I've been thinking about buying one of those spanx thingies, but have feared the whole going to the bathroom thing...is it much more of a pain in the keester to go while wearing one? |
Quote:
|
AWWWWWWWWW
Been at the dentist all morning, missed all the fun! Is there a full body spanx? |
I bought some of the Spanx panties they do hold the Jelly Belly in but they leave panty lines so I don't wear them. :ohdear:
Maybe I will try the Spanx that goes to mid-thigh anyone try that style? But then again maybe I will say the heck with it.:undecided: |
Quote:
Does that mean birthday cake? Happy Birthday! I have a weakness for Sangria, too. I pretend it is good for me because I put a lot of fruit in it? I also throw a decent splash of Grand Marnier into that pitcher of red wine and fruit. When it goes into the glass, it gets topped with just a tiny bit of 7 Up. I know that sounds like a bad thing to do to something that has Grand Marnier in it, but what can I say.....I am who I am....... And then I dab a little Grand Marnier behind my ears. That stuff smells so wonderful. And, girls, about those Spanx......where does it go???? That woman who invented those things must be a magician. All I know is Spanx worx. Boomer |
YES! This is the TOTV I know and love!
|
Halle, those are the ones I use, mid-thigh style. Boomer's right, as usual, they worx....
Boomer, I love Grand Marnier.... maybe we should market it as a perfume???? I'll be the packaging designer for our new venture. The lady who invented spanx is a genius, where does it go? No one has mentioned that I have a panty line, Halle, at least none of the guys staring at my buttttttt......LOL... |
Boomer,
I was just going down to my home gym to exercise when I saw your post. I add the Diet Sierra Mist Ruby Splash to my Sangria, Yum. Notice I did say Diet. Now to work off those Potato Chips! :cus: |
Quote:
After dabbing Boomer's Grand Mariner behind my ears, suddenly I have an urge to step out, get wild and purchase a pair of thigh length Spanx! :D |
Kathie,
About the spanx thingies, could ya pm me too about the bathroom issues. Before I spend 39.99 on one I want to be sure I can get one off in a hurry if I have to! and thanks for the good news about them girls, I think Im gonna do it. But how about the Florida heat?? |
Quote:
They're good for the high school renunion when you haven't seen your old friends in 35 years though. Worth not breathing for a night. When I discovered Spanx, I thought the women who designed it were brilliant. But now I'm tired of my Spanx, and I find buying larger clothes is way more comfortable. And Nonie, colon cleansers usually give you diahreaa and that is why you suddenly lose weight. And then you start eating normally and gain it back. But it sure is a neat way for colon cleanser companies to make a billion bucks. Not that I haven't tried my share of miracle products. Remember the plastic device you put in your ear and pressed on it when you got hungry? Supposed to activate your acupunture points to suppress hunger. Haha. Right. But honestly, I'm starting a diet tomorrow. :sigh: |
Oh Bare, I can always count on you to be the voice of reason and truth.
I think I was actually expecting someone to say that the thingies were comfortable and cool, hardly know your wearing them. Thankyou for the shot of reality, I think Ill save my 39.99 and let it all hang out, the confinement would just turn me into a huge grouch anyway. :cus: |
Quote:
Oh Nonie, sorry, I didn't mean to rain on your parade. I'm just as quick as anyone to go for the "miracle weight loss" plan. But I tried on one of those "slim in one minute" body shapers last Friday. It was way more comfortable and cool than the old rubber girdles. And comparatively speaking, I guess you hardly know you're wearing them. As long as there is air conditioning! But when I wear a body shaper for any length of time, I still long to get home, get it off, and get into something comfortable. I think they're worth having around for a wedding or family reunion .. but not for daily wear. None, don't worry kiddo, you're perfect the way you are. :eclipsee_gold_cup: |
Got a spanx for my son's wedding. After looking at the pictures I wondered why.
======================== (And thanks, friends, for bringing me back. More like the TOTV I used to know.) |
Eeeeeeeeeeeks!
Nonie! I tried on one of those one piece body suits and my underarms became part of my boobs! :loco: So, don't think it's odd when you get here if I'm smiling at you with my elbows!
|
:faint:
remind me to stop watching info-mercials! Chels you are hysterical!!!:clap2::1rotfl::1rotfl::1rotfl::1rotf l: |
