Facial Recommendation

Ladies, need your input. I would like to have a facial. I have searched the local area and see that we have a good choice of spas. Would anyone care to recommend one that they feel does a really good job for mature skin?

I have looked at Tuscany, but their prices are way and far above all the other Spa's, so I have ruled them out.

Any others? Has anyone tried Ulta - their prices are probably the best I have found, but would you recommend them? I am interested in The Salt Room, has anyone used them?

JSR22 09-10-2016 08:03 AM

Merle Norman in Colony Plaza offers a number of different facials.

Absolutely could not put it down, and I guess she is going to write the third and make it a trilogy. Now I have to read the rest of her books.

I was told by a friend to read "Me Before You" and I liked the book. I didn't know there was a sequel, thanks for that info. I usually don't enjoy movies if I've read the book first. Perhaps because they leave out details, not sure.

I just read two books by S.J. Watson, "Second Life" and "Before I Sleep". I wouldn't call them chick lit, but I loved both books. Easy reads, but VERY suspenseful. I didn't even guess the ending until the last few pages.

Samantha is a good hair cutter. Word of warning -- she sometimes runs behind so there may be a wait.

I've always been intrigued by The Salt Room. I think they also offer massages. Please let us know if you use them.

Books continued

On the subject of books, has anyone read Joan Anderson's books, they are all based on being married for many years and whether or not you should give in and have a mid-life crisis?

I started with "A Year by the Sea", followed that with "An Unfinished Marriage" (which I thought was excellent), then I read "A Walk on the Beach" (just OK) and I am now reading The Second Journey - The Road back to Yourself". These are books written specifically for middle aged women.

I have read "A Year By the Sea" and "An Unfinished Marriage".
It's too late for me to have a mid-life crisis - that ship sailed for me years ago.
And yes, I had a series of mid-life crises back in the day. I'm so glad that time of confusion is over.
The lesson I learned "The grass is not necessarily greener on the other side of the fence". :jester:

Bare: I just finished Joan Anderson's "A Second Journey", as far as I was concerned it was a journey she should not have bothered to take. The only one I really enjoyed was An Unfinished Marriage, after that it was all down hill!

Mid-Life Crises ........... never had time for that:laugh:. I was working more hours than I should have been, with a husband who was traveling all over the world on business so when he got home it was like a "honeymoon" and then he was off again leaving me with the two children, two homes, a dog and a job - phew!

Today, Sept 21, 2016 - S.J. Watson, "Second Life" and "Before I Sleep"

On your recommendation, I just got these two books at the library. Could not put down "before I sleep", really really creepy. It reminded me a little of a Julia Robert's movie I saw sometime ago called Sleeping With the Enemy, it kept me on the edge of my seat for the whole movie. Now I cannot wait to read your other book by Watson called Second Life.

Ladies, suggestions on adjusting to moving away from friends and family? We are in OO (TV family community) just my husband and I, we are in late 40's, no kids at home and both retired.

No dues. You just pay for your own lunch. We have married woman, single woman, widows, and anyone else who wishes to have a good laugh!!!! Looking forward to hearing from you. Sharon

Hi Sharon, can you tell me when the next meeting is? We moved from Michigan in July and feeling pretty lonely leaving friends and family back home. Also, is your group a pretty good mix of ages? Thanks so much!

BF..No nod to Elsa, but, 'LET IT GO'!!! I had my gal color with ash blonde and two cuts later, I was $150 heavier in my pockets and happy as a worm in an apple. Allowing it to be 'cut-in' really made it easier.
Honestly, BF, JUST OWN IT! You know you are an own-it kinda gal. Gonna be smashing and one-of-a-kind.
You can't improve on perfection; Nomesayin?

Try to find some activities here in TV that u really enjoy and u will be able to find some nice friends here, too. I do think it is somewhat more difficult to connect because I am asked at leat 3 times a day if I am old enough to live here. I just smile and say YES and sometimes that leads to a nice conversation. Peace out...

In my humble opinion, it is very difficult to move here and leave your family and friends behind and, in our case, it took us a long time to get used to being "on our own" and we were considerably older than you when we did it.

If I may - I would suggest you search through the Rec News every week and go through the clubs to see if there is anything of interest for either one of you. I do not have a list, but there is a full list of clubs here that I am sure one of the ladies on this board could give you. Also, you might find something in the catalog put out by The Villages Lifelong Learning College, you could pick one up at the regional rec centers.

What about volunteering? The Sun has several pages of volunteer opportunities every week. I have no idea what your professions were, but you might be of great use to one of the local schools.

You are probably used to a very structured life and you may just need to find something to kill some time in your day until you learn how to live in TV.

I wish you well - I went through something very similar when my other half was transferred overseas for several years and I had to leave a job I loved, family, friends and a neighborhood where everyone knew me. It is not easy.

Good morning, Girl Talk,

I have been watching The Crown on Netflix. It is wonderful -- well......maybe not Downton Abbey wonderful, but, hey, what is.

John Lithgow plays Churchill. He is one of my favorite actors. Every now and then, I just have to watch a few episodes of 3rd Rock from the Sun because I think he is hilarious in that role. His Churchill, of course, is not hilarious. But fascinating. He is not as old as he looks as Churchill. Good transformation. Lithgow is an amazing actor. What a range.

You are welcome, Barefoot. I just finished the last episode. I think it is supposed to be a continuing series. I hope so.

Elizabeth was so young at her coronation. The first season of The Crown ends in the mid 1950s so there is (obviously) still much to tell.

The life of her uncle after he abdicated to marry Wallis Simpson is there, along with the backstory of Princess Margaret and Peter Townsend. I never knew about the impossible situation her sister's great love affair put Queen Elizabeth in. -- 'twas a big, sad mess.

I guess it's not easy being Queen.

Has anyone ever used an at-home laser hair removal system?
Please PM me if you don't want to reply online.

Some of the laser systems on Amazon have very favorable ratings.
Still, I find it's a scary idea to use laser beams at home.
That's probably an old fashioned idea though, like being afraid of microwaves and cell phones.

And it's OK, LLW, I think you're kidding......I think. :)

History Lesson: Barefoot started this thread long ago when TOTV was a whole lot more fun. I was among the pioneer women here in "Girl Talk" and believe you me, this ol' Boomer gets the irony of the name and luvs it, too. We are a confident bunch and perfectly comfortable with irony.

It's been a long time, huh, Girls.

Thank you, Barefoot. (btw, my hair is still not gray)

Last night I watched Florence Foster Jenkins starring Meryl Streep and Hugh Grant. Simon Helberg, better known as Howard Wolowitz in Big Bang Theory, has a big role and is quite good -- holds his own alongside those two big movie stars.

It's an interesting movie, based on a true story. A sadly sweet movie. A sweetly sad movie.

I did not think I was going to like the movie much but I did. A lot.

Hi Barefoot,

I watched Florence on cable.

Yeah. I know. I have been dropping breadcrumbs around here as I work this thing through. Thought about it last year, but it is always so nice to be there and I really like our house and neighbors and location. But.........it's the "being there" part that is becoming less and less -- due to our northern life. Sometimes I just want to be a (gasp) renter.

Still north. Will see what happens. :)

Hi again,

Here's another Meryl Streep movie for you......Ricki and the Flash. In this one she plays an aging rocker who had left her kids behind in Indianapolis to chase her dream. Her kids grow up. She comes back into their lives. The story is pretty predictable, but I liked it.

I had to check the iPad to see if she was doing her own singing and, of course, she was.

Having watched two Meryl Streep movies on cable this weekend reminded me of how gifted she truly is. Florence and Ricki were very different kinds of women.........but they both sure did love their music.

It has been such an exciting weekend for me. Got one of those stupid colds that makes me feel like my head is a concrete block. Had to turn down an invitation to have an actual social life so I could lie around, wearing mismatched flannel, eating popsicles, and watching cable. But, at least, I liked the movies.

What I probably need now is a recipe for a hot toddy.

I watched Ricki and the Flash on a plane ride. She sure is good. Somehow I knew she did her own singing, with a lot of coaching. They were going to dub her, but he said no. She put in the work. An amazing talent.

In another thread this morning, I wrote an agreeing and commiserating rant about people who have bad manners. These clods are inflicting themselves on others, more and more, and everywhere. I try not to rant. But sometimes I just have to.

Anyway, I almost deleted what I wrote because......why bother.......but I decided instead to come over here to "Girl Talk" to recommend a book on the topic of my rant.......

The book is Rude B**ches Make Me Tired: slightly profane and entirely logical answers to modern etiquette dilemmas by Celia Rivenbark. (The title says it all.)

Celia Rivenbark is a southern writer with a bit of a mouth on her and an insightful attitude......I like her. I am just aggravated because she writes stuff I think but I did not write a book. Dammit. Oh well, anyway........One of her other books is Stop Dressing Your Six-Year Old Like A Skank. (I have not read that one yet.)

Rivenbark says things that need to be said. Sometimes her writing makes me laugh out loud.

I am sorry to say that my dealings with Rosalie were not positive.
I have spoken with the police about what occurred and they said I was to trusting. I did not get a receipt from her, nor did I make a notation on my check what the amount was for.

I gave her size 16 silk lined Talbot slacks. She gave me back size 18 slacks, that were of a brand I never heard of.

I am now in the process of handling this matter through other means.

Boomer, want to thank you for your reading recommendations. Maybe it would be a good idea to have a book suggestions area on TOTV, although there probably is one and I just have not looked for it:o.

I am constantly amazed at the sheer rudeness of people, both men and women here in TV. Today I got the finger salute because a woman in a golf cart thought she should have been where I was in my great big car (hey lady, don't mess with a big old car while you are in a plastic cadillac especially when you are in the wrong). Last night I was getting some cold cuts in Publix when a woman came up with a picture in a magazine and told the deli person that is what she wanted. Truthfully, the whole counter stopped dead and everyone looked to see just what was going on! Last week, in Dr. River's waiting room, I got up to open the door for a lady in a wheelchair when a man pushed his way in from outside and almost fell over her! And I could go on and on, but what is the use.

It bothers me though that civility is taking a back seat to decency.

I once had an issue with a seamstress (not in TV). I dropped off a pair of slacks to be shortened, and a skirt to be lengthened. You can guess... she did the opposite. My problem was that a) I did not write down the instructions and keep a copy, and b) I did not inspect the clothing before taking the clothes home. The woman just denied doing anything wrong, and I was out the cost of the alterations. Not to mention being left with a mini skirt and no way to fix that. With two little kids and no proof, was not going to take her to small claims court over a somewhat insignificant amount of $ in their eyes.

But lesson learned.

It's hard to understand how such a mistake could happen.
I bet the woman who got slacks that were too small was equally upset.

This Is Us -- Tuesdays, on NBC........

-- Definitely Binge Worthy. (if you're not there already)

-- Well defined characters who make us want to keep tuning in to see how they are doing.

-- And the two "old" guys (the characters, Dr. Katowski and William Hill) are scripted to give the best advice, wise and wonderful.

-- The show might make you cry sometimes........but that's OK.

-- I recently heard about it from a friend, found it "On Demand" and now I am all caught up and set to record tonight.

You have any argan oil left? You could massage that into your scalp. Or call Samantha and ask her.

Is your scalp only itchy since you moved into your rental? Cat allergy? Mold in the home? T-gel shampoo and conditioner works wonders..
