I especially like Paula's Choice Resist, which is a super-light non-greasy moisturizer with SPF 30 and a hint of color. I also like SkinCeuticals recommended by Dotti, but I find it a bit shiny. I like the SPF 50 though. |

Yea, The Travelers line at Chicos is great. Like wearing PJs, but look sharp. They are always in my suitcase when I travel, but often wear them here too. Non cling! That's a big plus!!

I had breast cancer last year and I had Chemo. Ilost my hair. When it came in mostly white, I really loved it and so did everyone else. Give it a try if you absolutely hate it you can always color it again. Good luck. S.D.

I can't imagine the impact and challenge of being diagnosed with breast cancer and having chemo. It must take a lot of courage and strength. I hope you're doing well. I stopped coloring my hair because I developed an allergy to hair dye. I love hair that is mostly white, it looks fabulous. My hair has been growing out for a year, and I i find that it's "salt and pepper", mostly pepper. Who knew. My hair stylist keeps telling me it takes time and patience to grow out grey, and she is right. People tell me they like my "new" hair, which is shorter now, but I suspect they're just being kind. |

What you need: Black pepper (no need to bring the salt) What you do: Add a teaspoon to the wash cycle (along with your regular detergent) the next time you’re doing a load of colors. Set the water temperature to cold. How it works: The abrasiveness of the pepper exfoliates the soap residue that causes clothing to fade. Then it just washes away with the rinse cycle. |

I'm gonna try it! |

I could ask the same of you being awake and coherent enough to post before 6:00 am.... I'm kind of a 3am-10am sleeper. At least that would be my ideal! But my hubby has more normal sleeping hrs and so I'm often up and going, well before my brain is engaged. When I can't sleep, I'm on here catching up! |

Occasionally sleep hypnosis tapes work for me. My husband also sleeps normal hours. I think my circadian rhythm is permanently out of whack. |
I never said a proper thank you for your suggestions on how to stop black pants from fading. I take just one pair to the cleaners because they were relatively expensive and classic in style so the return-on-investment in dry cleaning is worth it.
Otherwise, for now, it's Woolite on the delicate cycle. -- I found a website that said to use fabric softener to stop abrasion -- just the opposite of the sneezy pants hint CFrance found. :) I am going to try Chico's Travelers line. The Chico's in TV is the first Chico's I ever spent any time in. I bought a couple of white shirts. -- I do not like to shop (except for furniture) so I tend to try to hurry. The first time I went to a Chico's was years ago. I walked in, did a quick look-around, and did not try anything on because I fled in horror thinking it was a store only for those who wore size 1 or 2. Anyway, thank you. I luv this ol' thread where we can have discussions that are light and fun and also quite useful for just us "girls." |

I bought a couple of pairs of pants, t-shirts, cardigans in several colors. One is orange and ties in the front. I mix and match. You can ball them up in a corner of your suitcase and then wear them to dinner. It's perfect solution for anyone who doesn't like to shop. I love that the line goes from casual to dressy. I also wear my Travellers at Christmas; I wear them with a sparkly top with sequins. It's the most versatile line I've ever found, and well worth the money. |
Need a great ladies resale shop
I am looking for a great resale shop near the villages for golf clothes and other almost new things that I no longer want. Thanks in advance

sunnybeeche, I used the search function at the top of the page for "consignment" and came up with this thread that might be helpful. https://www.talkofthevillages.com/fo...ht=consignment

This Chico's line sounds like it could be my answer. It might be a touch of spandex that helps the fabric hold its color. I looked at their website and I really like the classic style. I used to buy almost everything at Coldwater Creek. In fact, in my northern location I had a personal shopper, of sorts. I would call to find out when she could have some things ready for me to try on. We were about the same age and the same size so she understood the "look" I was after. Coldwater Creek WAS dependable for me because I thought the quality was decent at a decent price, and then the quality changed -- drastically. They must have been using different suppliers. There is a big difference between making a good profit and insulting your customers by trying to get them to pay the same as usual for shoddy stuff...... Well, we see what happened to Coldwater Creek......I think they did it to themselves. I really miss the old Coldwater Creek, especially the jackets and those terrific jeans that fit perfectly, looked like jeans, but felt like wearing pajamas. -- And I think the dressing rooms had those skinnyfying mirrors. Anyway, I liked the look of the Travelers Collection on the website and will go to Chico's to see it. Thank you. |

The Sharks threw her out, saying it was misleading marketing. While that is true, who doesn't want to look in the mirror and find themselves suddenly 10 lbs thinner? :evil6: P.S. A lot of people I know are starting WW in January. Of course Oprah is promoting it since she bought in. I think I can shed those pesky 10 holiday lbs without WW. But then I've been wrong before. Just call me Muffin Top. |

I saw a post somewhere about a Charity collecting used luggage. Does anyone remember it?
I'm not sure if it was on TOTV or in the online newspaper or if I dreamed about it. I just bought new Lily Bloom luggage, and I'd like to donate my old luggage to Charity. If I can't figure out which special Charity it is, I'll just take my luggage to Good Will. |
You'll be happy to know that Sally's Beauty supply is where I buy my Wella. Been doing my own for years!

I think it's playing at the Rialto. |

Hi, I am fairly new here and am wondering what the single's clubs are like. I would just like to meet some other single people. My neighborhood is all couples. Also, while at Eisenhower Rec. Center a couple of weeks ago on a Saturday night, there was a dance going on. The lady at the desk said it was Saturday Night Dance Club. But, I have not found anything with that name anywhere. Anyone know about that? Thank you!

Good morning,
Often here we talk about hair: Haircuts. Hair Color. Hair Stylists. Hair Products. Hair Angst. I am among those aging boomers who cannot go gently into white hair -- even though I think white hair looks beautiful on friends and strangers. Gray hair looks beautiful, too.........Sometimes I think if mine could go through the transitioning in that lovely salt and pepper way, I would be fine........ But nooooooo, my roots grow in white. And those roots come in fast. I have decided to try to give up on the darker base-color retouch and to highlight more heavily at the roots, lighter and lighter, while hoping to gradually blend in the white. I am one of the abominable snowbirds.......sort of, although we are in our TV house more often than just winter. That means I am going through this process in two states. Last winter, I found Myra at Urban Hair Studio, which is a Wella Salon. I really like Myra. She listens and communicates and understands the complexity that coloring hair can be. With bleaching, knowing how and when to use a toner is really important. Myra did mine just right. A good colorist has to be a good chemist. Myra also gives a good haircut. Although not going gently into my real white hair is a big commitment, I do like the fact that bleach (done right) gives hair more oomph. And my hair needs all the oomph it can get. This Girl Talk thread was started by Barefoot many years ago. And if you go back to the first page, you will see the very first topic was......you guessed it! Hair! And I am still here. A little embarrassing actually. Have I stayed too long? Agonizing over my hair color? Any thoughts and suggestions on how to make this transition into reality? Or the best way not to? Boomer |

Hi CFrance,
I know what you mean about skin tone. I have to figure out how to keep some kind of dimension in the color or my whole head will fade into one big blah. I am thinking about shades of dark blonde with my white blending in. It is sure a process in more ways than one......... Now, CFrance, I hope you will join me in a smile based upon looking at your avatar in juxtaposition to your post. :) -- I can't help picturing the writer being the one in the avatar and as a result of my wandering imagination, I must say....... I think your shades of blonde in your picture are just beautiful with your gray. Boomer |

I go to Urban Hair for six months in the winter; all the sylists there seem to be excellent. But --- I haven't yet found anyone in Canada that can cut my hair similar to Urban Hair! The last hairdresser that I liked in Canada moved away; and it took me years to find her. I am booked with someone new on Saturday, wish me luck. I followed the advice of the owner of Urban Hair and picked a hair cutter who has worked in the same shop for 30 years. We'll see. I transitioned about a year ago. No, not gender, going grey. I developed allergies to hair dye so I had no choice. I always thought my hair would be a gorgeous icy white color. But no, it's salt and pepper with more pepper than salt, especially at the back. Which makes me look somewhat like a zebra. But now I've gotten used to it; I don't mind my hair color at all. One problem with transitioning is now I need a new wardrobe. My old orange-reds don't look jazzy at all with grey hair. So Boomer, my advice to you is TRANSITION. You'll be glad you did. I was a slave to hair color for many years. Now the freedom from dying and highlighting - priceless. |
