Default Looking back on improper behavior

The thread on the upskirting doctor made me think about some things that happened to me when I was in high school in the 60s, such as:

- My boss at a part-time job at Walgreen's who kept "accidentally" brushing up against me when passing me in the aisles or stockroom. Funny how his arms always bumped into my breasts.

- The pharmacy tech at that same job who took me along for a delivery, then driving the car around in circles while asking me about my sexual activities with my boyfriend/future ex-husband

- A flasher who drove alongside me masturbating in his car while I was riding my bike.

- Someone who called and asked for me when I was working in the school library, then told me in pornographic detail what he'd like to do to my body.

I'm sure we all have similar stories. The oddest thing to me now is that it never occurred to me to tell anyone and certainly not to think that some of those incidents may have been crimes. I was just, "Ew, gross." Like it was a fact of life not even worth remarking on.

I wonder what the police would have done if I had gone to them, or my mother if I had told her. I suspect nothing.

Guess it wasn't so bad being the fat, ugly kid.

Queasy, can I ever relate to your post! I had many similar things happen to me, and I had the same reaction as you did.
I didn't tell anyone, it never occurred to me.
There was no emphasis in those days on reporting deviant behavior.
I just thought, ewwww, gross, that's life.

Hey, it wasn't just you gals. I remember growing up and the two twin girls that lived on my street who were 5 years older then me, used to walk me home from school and teach me all kinds of new and interesting things when we got home. Today it would be classified as sexual harassment or child abuse, back then I just thought it was great fun.

I keep saying that things really aren't a lot worse today than they were when we were growing up or even when our parents or grandparents were children. The only differences are that some things that were once considered normal are now called deviant behavior (believe it or not incest was pretty common when we were an agricultural nation) or we're just more aware and open today of what is deviant.

Remember that when we're growing up a girl who got raped was asking for it. No meant if you could force me, it was okay. At least that has changed. Statistically, one in three women over the age of sixty was sexually molested. I doubt those numbers have changed.

^^- A flasher who drove alongside me masturbating in his car while I was riding my bike.^^

I saw that same flasher sitting in his car next to mine in the K-mart parking lot pleasuring himself and eyeballing me. A few minutes later he was wearing a raincoat and flashed me in the women's clothing department. I told my mom and we just laughed about it never telling the police or even the store manager.

Almost forgot about this one. The boys in our class were looking up dirty words in the dictionary and the teacher (a young male about 30 years old) said put that away for now but anybody who wants to know anything about sex stay in for recess.

I could blame the overall cultural of obliviousness, but I was pretty damned stupid myself. When I was 19, a friend of the family in his late 40s who was a private investigator hired me to go to a liquor store owned by one of his clients to see if the clerks would sell alcohol to underage customers. Fine. The next "job" he had was to pretend to be his girlfriend while we went to an XXX drive-in, supposedly so he could watch someone he was tailing. He told me to wear "something sexy".

And I did! I wore a semi-transparent blouse and he commented when he picked me up that I had nice breasts. He wanted to "pretend" to make out when he and I got to the drive-in, and I finally became uncomfortable enough to tell him to take me home.

I hope to dog that young women are smarter and more aware these days.

You remind me of myself. I was so clueless back then. I trusted people. I grew up on a farm in the middle of nowhere and didn't know any better. Some of the scenarios are almost comical. They do stick in your mind now though because we know we were violated.

True story, I remember when I was about 9 growing up in Baltimore and the neighbor girl who was a couple of years older than me, came outside and was eating an apple while rocking in a rocking chair. Only thing was, she wasn't wearing any shirt. Unfortunately we moved to Florida the next year.

The other weird thing was when I was about 12 living in St. Petersburg riding on the back of my dad's motorcycle and we saw a man naked standing outside on his back porch. We drove a couple of blocks and saw a policeman and my dad told him. He followed up back to the house and the cop knocked on the man's backdoor. He opened the door wearing just a robe and denied the allegation but he couldn't explain why he was wearing shoes with socks. He got arrested and my dad testified in court.

Many years ago in the town of Scottsburg Virginia I witnessed a streaker run around the outside of a burger king. I fell out the booth laughing then had to get the milkshake out my nose. I got a repeat of the milkshake up the nose when the security guard came in ten minutes later looking for the streaker. Too late Bubba!

I was on a first date with a guy at a night club. He disappeared for about 15 minutes. I looked up and here he comes running across the room with a girl with long blonde hair. They were both naked! That was our one and only date.
