Right, and it is a robbery, not a burglary.

Right a Burglary is an unoccupied structure. A robbery is when the structure is occupied and the degree changes by the time of day and a few other things.. Night time is a higher degree. At least that is the way the statue read where I was from originally.

Close, but not quite.

Burglary = Entering or remaining in a dwelling, structure or conveyance unlawfully, with the intent to commit a crime within. The level, and penalty, increases if the dwelling is occupied at the time. Example: Breaking into a home or business in order to steal property.

Robbery = Taking property of another by means of violence, force, or the threat thereof. Penalty increases with the level of violence...i.e., strongarm (unarmed), vs armed robbery. Example: Pointing a firearm at a store clerk and demanding money.

The penalty ranges for robbery are, generally, more severe than they are for burglary.

"Talk of The Villages"?? This has nothing to do with The Villages as this home is in the center of Leesburg. Much like the online paper "Villages, News" that publishes a high percentage of articles that have NOTHING to do with The Villages.
There are so many positive, uplifting things going on in our community that you could focus on. Come on Meta you can do better please. Thank you

Some of us understand that "the bubble" is just a concept an not an impenetrable wall. We spend a good deal of time in Leesburg and it would surprise me if residents of Leesburg didn't find their way into the Villages.

A riot in Oregon and a shooting in Texas will not impact my day-to-day life. Events just ten miles away in Leesburg might.

We have options to read or not to read.

It’s area news, who say the burglar/robbers won’t venture into villages.

The homeowner needs a little more range time.

Good for the home owner, they ought to give him a metal. If they weren’t invited in your home they’re intruding to take something or to kill someone. The U.S. want shooting crimes to go down or quit well this one less person we might have to worry about to bad the home owner didn’t eliminate this person. Thank you whoever you are home owner!

In Florida, when someone breaks into your home, you have the right to defend it, not unlike some other states where you have to run and hide. Go Florida !

The homeowner was handing out metal and deserves a medal for his heroism.
