The Sumter County Sheriff’s Office has experienced a ransomeware attack. The agency responded quickly by cutting off all access from the attacker. Law enforcement service response was not impacted by the attack, according to a media release. Perhaps if they made the penalties in line with the crime this could be better controlled

You could make it the death penalty. But you still have to find the perp, then enforce the penalty. The perp could be anywhere around the world. Good luck!
