Default 6 inch holes at Santiago today.

Anyone else play there today? We gave it a try, it was fun and a little funny. The starter said about 90% of the people liked them. It was crowded in morning but we had the place to ourselves in afternoon.
For me it was like making a tennis ball a little larger, fun at first or for beginners, but not for everyone.

Mrs. Blueash and I played this afternoon. It was fun. I know the serious people may not think anything that makes it fun should ever happen... but it was fun! I asked the starter about aces. Only one reported. It takes a little less skill to make that six foot putt. But it takes less skill to hit a drive with a 300 dollar huge head special balanced and personally adjusted club than to use the club Gene Sarazen used. Improved equipment gives you a better score even though you are not a better golfer. This is just another equipment change which helps your score. Wouldn't want it for every outing but relax, laugh, don't overstudy your putts, keeps the game moving nicely. Only I believe three more days where the six inchers are going to be used

I cannot believe that the world did not end! I was ready to take my $200 putter and my $200 driver and throw them away!

My group played today and we missed as many putts as we usually do.

One player made a chip-in birdie that probably would have been good on a regular cup as it was straight at the flag but we were not sure.

I will admit that I had a couple of putts that were a little wide that fell because of the larger cup.

Not a big deal.

If they made El Santiago a permanent 6" cup course, I could live with it.

Wife and I played there this PM and had a good time.
There are 3 sets of tees there so what's the difference between making the hole a little bigger and moving from the back tee to the forward tee?

at some courses, but if you don't understand the difference in putting to a 6" vs a 4+" cup and making a full swing with a golf club(be it 40yds or 150yds)then I'd love to play you for money. :-)

The 6" holes are not for speed of play but to make the game easier to play.

One day a result does not make. someone playing with 6'putting holes is going to lose on their putting acumen. Based on what I read in the paper from Trivett it didn't speed up play. The primary reason here in The Villages that we have slow play is too much socializing and not enough focus on the game.

The golf industry is desperate for customers and these ploys may assist them or they may back fire?

i am a high handicapper but the joy of the challenge is the draw for me and keeps me coming back. Can we say the same for social players???????????/

Thumbs down Missing

What is missing is the impact of changing the holes on the recognitions of the Golf Courses, the hole in ones, handicaps, etc.
By increasing the size of the holes the hole in ones are not longer recognized by the USGA, The courses are not recognized for record purposes and the handicaps are no longer in compliance with the USGA. All of this because the hole sizes are no longer in compliance with the USGA rule that holes must be 4 1/4 in size. Taken to it's extreme they will become a pitch and put or miniture golf courses. Personally, I think it is an insult to the residents of The Villages since it is a way of saying your too old to play within the USGA. Am I the only one that sees the impact of the changes, (e.g. Qualifying within USGA) and the insult it truly is to the residents who play.?

Handicap are not calculated from rounds on exec courses. They are too short.
