Default Golf Club Fitting Limitations

Hello.
How important is a golf club fitting when purchasing a package set of clubs?
Once you know the length of club fitted to your body type, what comes in the package is what you get. So, why get fitted?
What are the benefits if one is buying a package vs. individual club selections? It seems that a fitting mostly benefits the individual club buyer. No?
Thanks.

For a beginner only might consider getting custom made is if you have very long or very short arms. Get a regular shaft or senior shafts.

There is so much more to a fitting than just getting the length correct. And FYI, measuring your length using online methods will get you close, but a true fitting will be far more exact. During a good fitting (and most places here don't do all of these things), you should expect:

1) Correct length evaluated by having you swing clubs at various lengths to determine where you get the most consistent contact based on your swing style. Height and arm length will only get you in the ballpark.

2) Correct lie ange for the irons. All irons ship with standard lie angle, but the majority of golfers will need some adjustment - either upright or flat. I'm at 2 degrees flat. If the lie angle is wrong for you it will impact direction of the ball. Too upright, ball goes right, too flat, it goes left. In both instances it makes it easier to get the club caught in the turf.

3) Correct shaft for you. It's not just about do you need stiff, regular, or senior flex. All clubs come with one or two standard shafts in each flex at a retail shop. Most can be ordered with a dozen or so different shafts in each flex. The retail shaft might be perfect for you, but one of the other ones might give you more yards, more height, more backspin, etc. No way of knowing without trying them on a launch monitor. The shaft is the engine for the clubhead.

4) Correct club head. You can't assume that just because you like the look of a head, or like your friends clubs that they are right for you.

Getting all of these things right from the start will make the game far easier and more enjoyable for you in the long run.

I agree with dewilson58. Go Golf Central to get clubs that fit you and your budget. After that, get a set of lessons from a golf pro to learn how to play before you develop bad habits. BTW, there is always someone who will tell you how to fix your swing. Before you know it, you have 4 band aids over a poor swing.

Sarasota Golf Practice Center can do the same thing - only better.

Limitations, the consistency of your golf swing and the ability of the fitter.
