Have been playing down here for a couple of years but I still can't really gauge how a score on the Executives would equate vs "Breaking 100" or "Breaking 90" does anyone have any insight? For example, if I score a 38 on one with 2 par 4's it seems like I did "ok" but I can't really tell what that's equivalent to.

Par is a great score; bogey golf (9 over par) is a good score. If you shoot 38 on a course that is par 29, you are playing well.

Championship courses are usually par 72 so breaking 90 is playing one under bogey golf. Executive courses are 9 holes and mostly par 3 holes so breaking 100 or breaking 90 isn’t comparable.

Most golfers don’t break 90 on a regulation course. It might be a little easier to break 36 on an executive course because the holes are shorter and you don’t have to drive the ball 200-250 yards. But you still have to putt!!

I think that loosing less than 3 balls is a good score.

Good score is hitting every green in regulation and putting maybe 15 times (1 putting on 3 holes)

If all par 3s (par 27) a 24
Throw in 1 par 4 - then a 25

Shooting 2 or 3 under par is not a good score. It is a great score. I would bet that 75% of the golfers in the Villages do not break par.

I have been here about 3 years and I golf regularly. I frequently get paired up with random golfers. A few of them have been decent and I don’t think any of them have broken par.

Agree. We've been here for four years, playing regularly, and I've broken par only once; a 26 on Chula Vista. I think I still have the scorecard someplace.

Usually...low to mid-30's. higher on the level 3s and 4s. And I do win the ice cream hole about 60% of the time (my wife and I: one hole per round is chosen at random, and whoever gets closest to the hole on their tee shot wins ice cream a Kilwin's).

Your example of scoring 38 on an executive with two par 4's equates to playing bogey golf. On a Championship course, bogey golf is generally shooting 90, so "breaking 90", means you are 1 shot better than playing bogey golf. All you need to do is take the par score of any executive, add 8 and you get your breaking 90 score. If you played an executive with all par 3's, you would need to shoot a 35 (9 holes *3 par +8) to be "breaking 90".

That is why a foot wedge is an essential part of the game. People takes golf scores much too seriously.

A good score for me is a score better than my last one. I golf to enjoy myself and I only measure myself against myself.
