Default Ai gone mad!

One clip on Instagram, which has been viewed over 21.5 million times, shows a man ordering "a large Mountain Dew" and the AI voice continually replying "and what will you drink with that?"

LOL!

Tennessee whiskey! The Mountain Dew is just the mixer.

Thankfully, humans never make mistakes or misunderstand a question.

Clearly the AI just wants to make sure you stay hydrated.

AI
Artificial Ignoramus

Called a specialty doc's office to cancel and reschedule. Could not get a real person on the phone.
AI gave me no choice of reschedule date and time. Took probably 20 minutes of rephrasing, repeating, ad nauseum.

Voting with my feet: I plan to take my business elsewhere. (not the only lousy thing there).

I need to change my login to "Doomer Boomer", no offense to the always well typed original "Boomer"

AI will be the "Animal Farm" of information. . .

AGI, Artificial Generalized Intelligence, trains on general information, which comes from humans on places like FaceSpace, Birdspeak, etc, and since its generalized, it will keep getting dumber and dumber as the young and ignorant try to learn from it. .

Experts will no longer add to it, as experts will get lost in inter human negative competition, aka mud slinging, and experts will add to expert knowledge trained AGI, which will become the for pay version of AGI, aka AEI, or ASI.

Unguarded, somewhere it will be the downfall for governments, and the increase in violence as labor markets crumble to commodity status, serfdom, and localized people revolt

The worries of AI taking over the workforce are exaggerated,
People would rather talk to a real person than deal with an unsympathetic AI.
Look at how many people will stand in line at a grocery checkout rather than use self-checkout.

AI is impressive at times, but, as an example, if I want to buy "Blue Floral Polo Shirt for Men" on any website, you will mostly get anything but Blue, Polo Shirt, Floral and for Men.

A 2 years-old knows what is "Blue" and "Shirt" and "Men". A 4 years old knows what is "Polo Shirt". But Amazon, Walmart, eBay, etc have no clue!!! Most of the results are not blue, polo shirts, for men or floral.

At least with Amazon, they own a major AI initiative. Put it for simple good use!!!

Called Walgreens a couple days back to order refills. Got to the "pharmacy" and a nice woman answered. Sweet voice, and so totally natural. Asked me if that was a "T" or "P" in my name. Better than talking to a human. Really. No accent or slurred speech etc. When picking up the RX, I asked the clerk if she knew about the AI voice. No idea but she was gonna call to check it out.

Way the world is going. I'm ++++ about it, as in this case it frees up the pharmacy to do their job rather than answering yada calls.

Of course the "bad" AI stuff is very worrisome. But there is good and bad in virtually ANYTHING in life.

in 1962, the Beatles auditioned for Decca Records. The label's head of A&R, Dick Rowe, rejected them with the rationale that "guitar groups are on the way out" and "The Beatles have no future in show business"

In 1997, Digital Equipment Co. was the 2nd largest computer company in the world. The founder Ken Olsen, at the World Future Society, said " "There is no reason for any individual to have a computer in their home".

If ToTV had a wider audience, this thread might someday be quoted with the same reverence.

Yep, it’s not an unreasonable question. For example, in western NC, Mountain Dew was (still is) the top choice mixer with either moonshine or corn/grain alcohol. ‘Been there, done that with elder relatives and friends.

AI - It’s early, and we have a long way to go with AI.

DIGITAL - When I lived in MA, I had a very close personal friend that was in product development/sales at Digital, about 1989-1990. At the time my IBM PC-XT from 1985 was running an Intel 8088 CPU, and my friend gave me a sneak preview of a new DEC laptop “prototype” with a 40MB hard drive, 128K RAM and an Intel 80-486 chip, it even had a dial up modem and weighed 6lb. His comment to me at the time was that “the average consumer could never use the power of that laptop”, and the concern was sales wouldn’t meet expectations. Today I have a LENOVO with Intel Core i9, 16 (6/8/2) cores, 64GB RAM, 2TB M.2 Memory, OLED display, weighs 3+ lb, and all the other bells and whistles. So, don’t underestimate the customer or the ability to adapt (unlike DEC).

PATIENCE - After over 45 years using both mainframes and PC’s/Laptops I am resolved in the belief that “you cant be too rich, too thin, or have too much computing power”. I expect AI will find a place and most users will learn how to leverage the technology. If not then it will fade away, and we will need to navigate the transition. It’s a tool, like the wheel, movable type, etc. and its up to the user to maximize it’s use.

AI Bots/Responses - True, some AI response are off the mark, and make no sense, so care is needed with results. These systems/applications need more learning, feedback and some need to go. However, I’m all for tools that make my life easier and free up time, as for me time is finite and I want to maximize it.

Like when we request AI confirm a hacking situation: "Yes, a TransUnion data breach was reported on August 28, 2025, affecting over 4.4 million people due to a third-party application used for TransUnion's support operations. The incident exposed names, dates of birth, and Social Security numbers, though the company stated no credit information was accessed." Will AI ever prevent hackers and scammers from their evil deeds?
