Default Barnes & Noble possible takeover

While checking the business news this am I noticed a story circulating that says Borders is interested in buying the struggling Barnes & Noble chain. Hope that would mean good news for the store in LSL.

Oh Boy, that would be nice. Borders is great and it would be good for us to still have a quality bookstore to go to. Keep us posted. Thanks,, Kath

Apparently activist shareholder Bill Ackman has offered to help finance the deal which should help because sometimes financing can kill these deals. Borders and Barnes and Noble are big competitors. They were located a block away from each other in Albany, NY for years but then Barnes and Noble built a new larger store and Borders gave up and closed their store. The only problem is Barnes and Noble is much larger than Borders. One analyst stated it was like a guppy trying to swallow a whale.

Since Borders does not have any bookstores nearby hopefully the Barnes and Noble store in The Villages would be kept open if the merger/purchase does occur.

They are only one of the companies looking at making an offer to buy Barnes and Noble.

I thought I saw a headline about Borders re Barnes and Noble on CNN website this morning but I can't find it now.

I hope this book store stays in business. I like to read hard copy as I am not a kindle type person.

To each his/her own.

Well, it appears that Borders has filed for bankruptcy today since they were unable to find the financing that they needed to continue in business.
