As a member of USAA have you used their wealth management services? If so would you recommend them?

We have recently used USAA Wealth Management Services and can recommend them. You have to qualify financially to access them, but the services don't cost you anything but your time. We have not retired yet. We initiated the services essentially for an overview of our financial situation and to make certain that we are on track with the timing that we wanted to retire. It is quite nice to have one person assigned to you at USAA manage this process for you. He looked at our entire picture and made solid recommendations beyond just the finances (examples: adding umbrella liability; updating wills, powers of attorney, beneficiaries; long-term care; additional savings to auto insurance from adding other USAA products; consolidating/transferring IRA assets to USAA; bringing other USAA resources directly to us). He also prepared a specific financial report for us with Monte Carlo scenarios, which added a dimension of comfort for our long range needs.

Gathering all of your information is going to take the majority of your time investment. While our USAA representative is in the same city as we are, and we had the option of meeting face-to-face, we didn't. Our schedules were much more conducive to doing everything by conference calls and this worked out perfectly for us. We are now at the point now where we are 90-95% done with what we need to finish out (on our own), so we don't have any further regular interaction (appointments set for conference calls) and can initiate again with him anytime as we want or feel the need to.
