Here is some resource information on that very subject from the National Association of Personal Financial Advisors (NAPFA).
They have a guide for that purpose along with some checklists... what questions to ask, etc. Resources - NAPFA - The National Association of Personal Financial Advisors Who they are: About Us - NAPFA - The National Association of Personal Financial Advisors Here is a link to the FINRA (Financial Industry Regulatory Authority) web site. there is a lot of education information and things to consider. Investors - FINRA Here is a link to the FINRA BrokerCheck Tool Quote:
BrokerCheck: Research Brokers & Investment Advisers - FINRA Plus... Some Mutual Fund Companies, like Vanguard, have Investment Advisory Services where customers can get the help of a CFP for a review. Of course, Vanguard requires the investor to have a certain level of investments at Vanguard. The cost for a CFP review depends on the amount of money invested with them (e.g., low fee or free ) If you are satisfied with your mutual fund company, you could ask them what they offer with regard to CFP type services. I put a link to the vanguard page just as a point of reference so you can see what I was trying to describe. https://investor.vanguard.com/what-w...elect-services |

Wells Fargo Securities consultants are fee based.
They do have local representatives. |

I have been told "Fee Based" is not "Fee Only"
and that Fee Only is the way to go. ??? |

The word Financial Adviser is used rather loosely too. Certifications, the services offered can vary, etc. |

This type of decision is not like buying a Television set! I think you realize it or are beginning to realize it.
Be patient, try to not get frustrated and avoid taking short-cuts in your research. IMO, It would be very wise to take some time and do your homework and due diligence effort! |

Although it will probably be difficult for you at this juncture of you life, take your time in selecting a financial advisor. Be diligent. Thoroughly check out their backgrounds for any past issues with clients or the handling or client funds as well as their professional performance records.

I just received a letter from Prudential saying that an account is being ceased. My options are they will reinvest into a MM Account or I can withdraw without penalty but must do it by April 14th.
Im thinking of taking it out and putting it into a Vanguard fund until I get together with an advisor. I feel pressured with this account! Quote:
