The grandfather was surprised that she would ask a question like that, but decided if she's old enough to ask, she's old enough to get a straight answer.

Steeling himself, he began to tell her all about human reproduction and the joys and responsibilities of intercourse. He stopped in mid explanation when he noticed her mouth hanging open and her eyes wide with amazement.
