Default The "Price Is Right" Puzzle

Here is an interesting hypothetical problem called "The Price Is Right" Puzzle:
You are a contestant on The Price Is Right. You have 3 doors in front of you. In back of one of the doors is a brand new car. Behind the other two doors are worthless prizes. Bob Barker (who knows which door the car is behind) asks you to choose a door. After you choose a door , Bob says that before we show you what's behind the door you chose, I will show you what's behind one of the two remaining doors. He opens one of the remaining doors and shows you that it contains a worthless prize. Now he gives you the option to stick with your original choice of door or switch to the remaining unopened door. What would be the best decision for you to make? Stick with your original guess or switch to the remaining unopened door?

I would switch to the unopened door. It would increase my odds of winning to 2/3, whereas keeping my original pick my odds of winning are only 1/3.

Let the flaming begin! LOL!

Well I sure didn't expect someone to get it right on the first answer! It's counterintuitive, but you're absolutely right.

I only got it right because it came up a long time ago in the "Ask Marilyn" column in Parade magazine. Here's an interesting piece...

If you haven't tried to think it through yet, don't peek!!
