I am kinda saddened to see that younger people have no idea of the niceties of social introductions. I kinda learned them in grammar school (and still use them as best as I can remember). I don't need a quote from a Google search but would like to know if you use the old fashioned "Rules of Introduction" e.g. introducing a woman to the man assuming they are about the same age.

It was my understanding that you would introduce a man to the woman as in Ms. Smith, may I present Mr. Davis" in a social situation but in business it would be decided by who ranked higher in the organization chart.

Here's how I learned it. You are with Mary and John. You encounter Joe, a person you know but Mary and John don't. You say, "Joe, let me present my friends Mary and John."
Of course, having learned this in the fourth grade, i could have faulty memory--shocking!-- or the rules could have changed. I really don't remember the man/woman thing, but it kind of makes sense when applied, say, 50 years ago. |

Then there is the age factor. I would introduce a friend to my grandmother as: Grandmother, may I introduce my friend Jane to you.

You are going to lose most young people with the word "Rules"let along introduction Civility is a thing of the past. Most introductions by men or women today go something like this These are my b------ And boasting about bodily funcions that in our day would embarass most. In the manner of social skills we are moving backward

Lately when I see someone I have met prior but do not remember their name, I say we have met and I introduce myself first to refresh their memory and, usually, not always but usually, they say their name in response.

I have nieces and nephews in their 20's who use the honorific "uncle" when addressing me. I also have young people use the Mr. Upon reflection, it seems that a lot of young people are polite and respectful after all.
