Default Showering time and gallons water challenge.

Yes, I know I get bored sometimes and look for something to occupy my brain while I still can

Ok, I figured out when I take shower how much water I use (based on my shower head) based on my method cutting water off when it don’t need to run.

It’s takes 30 seconds for hot water to reach my back master shower which takes 1 gallon of water to get hot water back there.

Now I start showering
It takes me 89 seconds water running to shower using 2.6 gallons or 9.84 liters of water.

From start to finish 119 seconds and 3.6 gallons/ 13.62 liters.

I was guessing I was using 6 gallons or more, but was way lower than my guest amount!

When water ration comes I’ll have to figure out how use that 1 gallon water waiting on hot water to get to shower? No sense let gallon water go down drain under rationing

I don't know what water rationing you're talking about - I haven't heard of any need for that kind of rationing. We have a "please try not to use your sprinklers too much for awhile" thing during droughts, but that's about it.

Meanwhile, if you're trying to think of things to do with the water from your faucet that you don't use because it's not hot yet...

Put a bucket under the faucet. Then use that water to wash your car. Or water your flowerbeds. Or bathe your dog. You can funnel it into some plastic bottles that might've held 2 litres of soda or gallons of spring water. Keep one in your freezer, and another in whatever closet you keep your bathroom supplies. If there's an emergency with power outage or the need to shut off your water, the frozen water in the freezer will help keep everything else in the freezer cold, and you can use the water from the other bottles to fill the tank in your toilet.

You may save water by having someone else turn the shower on and off while you concentrate on washing.

Our gas tankless takes forever for HOT to get to shower. Which works for me I wash my hair in cold water, and rinse with warm. By that time the water is to temp.
I also only run the dishwasher after laundry or shower so water is always hot. No idea how many gallons but if I need to water the plants, a 5 gallon bucket will be full before hot comes in to play

We have a recirculating tankless water heater that we spec’d when we built the house. Probably spending more on energy than we’re saving on water. But it sure is nice not having to wait for hot water.

And it better take more than 89 seconds or you won't be friends for long.

I think missing the point. The point was 2.6 gallons to shower, 3.6 if count time takes hot water to reach for back, not want system or recommendation for me.

About 8 so years ago went thru water rationing which they charged more for water. All while new water bottling plant was being built south of villages drawing hundreds of thousand gallons of water day. Bottom line was charging more for water in supposed water shortages.

I cut my irrigation watering in half by replacing popups with drippers/sprinklers years ago that actually watered plants and not the rocks and street. I don’t have grass.

No just rotate handle to off, very easy once you get the idea where the warm setting is.
