Default Super Bowl boxes

I know it's too late for this years Super Bowl but I was wondering if people like to buy boxes on a 10X10 grid to guess the score of the big game. We did this up north at work/among friends. It is done for fun as the winner(s) take the pot. The boxes would be modestly priced ($1-$5) or more extravagant (of course a bigger payoff) . Sports bars would run one which I shunned.
Anyhow is this done here? If so is it by social groups (teams clubs) friends, sections within villages? Thanks

I have never been sure these things are legal, so I will not post the location in a public forum in case someone could get in trouble, but I am aware of some being run at a local bar. If I recall there is one for $5, one for $10 or one for $25 per square.

Back in MA my best friend ran one for $100/square. There would be a big party on Super Bowl Sunday. This pool was unique to my knowledge and had alot of moving parts:
  • Each square cost $100
  • Each score paid $300, e.g., whoever drew 0-0 won $300, after a touchdown 6-0 paid $300, after extra point 7-0 paid $300 and so on.
  • End of quarter paid $300
  • At the end of each quarter AFC numbers were increased by one, NFC were decreased by one.
  • After numbers changed, beginning of quarter paid $300
  • At end of game that score gets whatever money left in pot.

Lots of fun and it was a really good party for $100.

Thanks for the reply. Owning boxes just added to0 the fum. AND you don't have to know anything about football to win-- just dumb luck.
