I walked into the local Publix to buy some Liquid Plummer. After walking aisle-to-aisle for a few minutes, I came upon a woman whom I asked "Where's the Drano?" She did not seem to understand. So, I tried "Where's the Liquid Plummer?" With a thick Spanish accent she finally said "Aisle 1." And what else did I find on Aisle 1, but prune juice.
Only in the Villages? Or, would this also happen somewhere else. I am not sure if this Spanish speaker understood me or not. Maybe, she just needed a little laugh at the gringo's expense or she really did not understand English. Your guess is as good as mine. Last edited by Taltarzac725; 02-26-2012 at 11:46 AM. |

Thanks, angiefox10.
I wished I could have seen her face when I turned around headed for Aisle 1. I had thought that the Liquid Plummer actually was on Aisle 1 as I am not one of the chief shoppers in our household. They know what is on what Aisle by heart. I had to go searching for Liquid Plummer and just found prune juice. If I had seen her face after she sent me on my little mission, I would have known what she was thinking. Someone with a sense of humor or just another immigrant with poor English. Of course, there are those in the Spanish speaking community who may have been here a long time but were just so much involved in their own small community that they have not bothered to learn English. Check out the movie Spanglish for a funny take on this. Spanglish (film) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia For some reason I have heard some locals here in the Villages mention me being a cure for constipation. But, like the diary joke above, I am just not getting it. |
