I have consulted Dr. Google, but I am interested in first hand experience.
We had one installed when we moved in and lost it the first year due to freeze.

No such thing as palm rats. Period.

As far as maintenance goes, even plastic plants have to be cleaned once in a while, and grass oh my... mowed every week and needing lots of chemicals and fertilizer and water, is the highest possible maint. there is. There are many palms with different maintenance requirements. Pick one or three that fit you. Plant them in the right location for the type of palm you like, and most will require less than an hour a year of maintenance.. IF you don't listen to the uneducated hearsayers out there telling you how to take care of your palm. Or the guy in a pick up truck selling you a lie. Find an expert. (hint, send me a PM, I will answer honestly, and free)
